Ah I see the STG must have the same diameter muzzle ring as US pattern bayonets because of STANAG (NATO) flash hiders being a standard size to fit (STANAG) rifle grenades. Makes sense the bayonets for 5.56mm NATO rifles would have a common muzzle ring diameter from having a common muzzle device diameter.

I've never measured the i.d. of the ring. had to hone it a bit for a snug slip fit over the just coincidental o.d.of the Eagle (IIRC? no longer made AFAIK) break and H-K style front sight combo. I've got a Burris mil-tac 2x7 glass mounted, good clarity but the etchings aren't as pronounced as I'd prefer. the sight is a perfect match for the aperture of the Williams rear. really enhanced using the irons.
I've got more mags, a couple Triple K 30, couple more 20 and my favorite couple more of the no longer made s/s 'American' brand 10 round. the balance/handling is perfect with the 10 round.
the bayonet is made by Wenger, the quality and fit up of the metal cannot be overstated. I'll very likely never have to mount it in anger (hope not anyway) but the intimidation factor and usefulness of the blade is very high. this blade takes and holds a razor edge.

If you want to go to the trouble and expense, probably the least hassle is to dismount current front sight, and substitute a Choate flash suppressor/front sight unit: Mini 14 (580 Series) Cage S.S. for barrel diameter of .625 – Choate Machine & Tool – Choate Store Home

Then add approprite rear bayo lug for M-7 (M-16) bayonet, which is by far the least expensive of the US bayonets, and almost identical to the other ones mentioned. Get a less expensive M-10 scabbard for the bayo.

DO shop around.

In the unlikely, but possible event you ever mount an under-barrel strut to your Mini, the bayo lug will need to be removed in most cases.

What about the modern Mini-14 with the 16" barrel and factory flash suppressor? Will the cogburn one piece bayonet lug ring fit? will it let you mount a bayonet on those rifles?
Cogburn will fit on 16" barrel new Mini. But bayonet will not since it's too short on the barrel / flash hider distance to seat a bayonet properly. for 16" barrel, you need XXL flash hider which defeat the purpose of having shorter barrel.

The M4 is probably the most correct, the M7 is probably the most economical, yet the M9 is probably the easiest and most functional.

H-H Coronado NAB/MAA-Brig Chaser NS Ford Island HI. Army Training, USMC training, and Navy training vary significantly in curriculum and course schedule. USMC & Army got Bayonet training in Boot camp, the Navy set select personal to prerequisite courses after Boot camp. Seabees & NSW all received Small Arms Training.

Now an 18 inch stainless Mini-30 with an all wood butt stock, bayonet lug, and fiber optic/tritium iron sights with a Scout rail would open my purse strings. The ultimate M1 Carbine. JMHO. Beyond just "Kool", functional.
