Before you freak out you might visit Ruger's web site where they list the thread size.
I will not list it here. You need to know the true size rather than an unconfirmed size from an unknown internet source. FYI: Lisa has been know to throw a barb or two at Ruger.

Hi,

Ruger uses fairly standard threads for all newly made (2009+) rifles. They are threaded ½-28 (22 and 223 caliber) or 5/8-24 (6.8 and 30 cal.). Rifles prior to 2009 are threaded 9/16-24 (AC556 and GB models). Like KAC-556F said, a Torx 60 bit will remove the flash suppressor nicely.

Be careful and check your rifle before you purchase any muzzle device. My Mini-Tactical is a 580 series that I purchased mid-2009, but it came equipped with a 9/16-24 which made my hunt for a muzzle device a little more interesting. There are still a number of options out there, you just have to look a little more closely.

Bottom line, it looks like 2009 is a changeover year....so it may be a crap shoot what a Mini is equipped with.

45K20E4, Thanks for your advice sir. I had heard about what you said. Just to make sure on the size, I removed the one on my mini and tried the A2 from my AR. Fits perfectly, so I believe I'm good to go with the 1/2x28.
Thanks again

Glad to hear you got our easy. I was looking at my options when I discovered my 9/16 thread....now I have decided to go with the Smith Enterprise Good Iron brake, which is a proven design.

Not familiar with the Spike's Tactical. It does not specify how it mounts besides the ability to be pinned. No mention of crush washer, peel washer, jam nut, etc.

This is important because the Mini is threaded right over the barrel, whereas the M-16 spec barrels are cut down, then threaded. This gives the Mil-spec peel washer a face to compress against. Because of this, thought needs to be given as to how you will ensure the device is clocked correctly when it is tight.

The Good Iron uses a jam nut:

Smith also is a provider to the military at the unit level (majority of their business) which makes me confident they make a good product.

Hey 45K.......... Check out the bottom of the link I referenced above. At the bottom, it references a peel washer is include for timing so I think it should be good to go. I like the Smiths yuou are looking at. Have you ordered it yet?

I e-mailed Spikes with the following response regarding the FH from above I am considering.. Hope this may give you some additional options.

Jerry,

Yes, as long as the threads are the same, it will work. Shipping would be about $5.95 reg USPS Parcel Post…

Call me and I can place the order for you J

Thank you for choosing Spike's Tactical,

Yes, I ordered the Smith Good Iron brake and it should be here either Saturday or early next week.:D

I missed the peel washer reference. Still, I don't know that the peel washer will work on the Mini. My concern is that the barrel must be narrowed, then threaded, because there must be a face for the back of the muzzle device to butt up against with the peel washer. The Mini Barrels with 9/16-24 threads have no such a shelf, and Edorfox's rifle (above) with 1/2-28 thread barely has a step down to the threads, which to me, is not enough for a peel washer to work against.

Remember...when you talk muzzle devices with people, they probably only think AR platforms...and have no idea that a Mini is different (What? Everything in the world is not based on an AR? Crazy talk!!)

The following illustrates what I am talking about:

45K, Good point. I checked it out on my mini and I do have about a 1/16" lip. I've tried it with my A2 FH and it seems to be fine..tight. It's not times, but that may be where things may get's hairy. What would you think about locktight on it at the point where it is timed? Could even use a peel washer vs. a crusher.

You may have better luck with one that uses a crush washer. They may be tapered to fit your barrel step.

Possibly like Bushmaster offers?

Muzzle Brakes & Flash Supressors

I am speculating on the crush washer, because all of my experience with suppressors and compensators has been with Mil-spec weapons and none of knock off stuff. Military only uses peel washers.
