I see that all mention of the 123 V-Max has been scrubbed from Hornadys site.

Also on Midway the reviews for the old V-MAX loading are still there but now the reviewed ammunition is called the SST.

Mighty suspicious, methinks Hornady just changed the name and is hoping that nobody will notice. Why bring out a .310 SST anyway since they already have a good deer bullet with the 123 SP.

If anyone compares the V-MAX loads to the SST and they penetrate or expand differently please let us know.

I haven't shot any factory loaded Hornady x39 ammo but have shot the VMax 123gr slug in many handloads. it shoots fine but it's explosively expanding. it's a Varmint bullet as made. IMO not suitable for deer of any size unless a sure head/neck shot close-in. even then lots of wasted meat IMO.
don't know about the `123gr sp but Hornady has good reputation for them.
the Winny 123gr sp will come apart on deer in my experience filling doe tags with it.

Na, I don't buy that... Hornady has a huge and very good reputation for their components.... The SST is a Interlock and the V-max is a complete varmint round. Not even close in build or use.
So why would Hornady risk their reputation with something so obvious to shooters?

Yes the SST is designed differently than the V-max. It is marketed as a medium game round and on the web site the cavity is different and not as deep as the Vmax. Killed Antelope to Elk with Hornady. Good stuff. Glad they switched to SST.
