Magazines

I'm a complete newb and this is my first post. I just bought a used great cond. Mini 30, no magazines I ordered two magazines from Ruger and about had a heart attack . $100 with shipping and tax. Is there another cheaper brand that works as well? Also bought a Mini 14. Thanks

It pays to shop some of the big gun supply and accessories dealers, Midway offers the stock 5 rd and some aftermarket brands like Promag that are hit and miss. I shoot Promag out of my mini 14 with good results.

Ruger will charge full retail so they don't undercut distribution prices.

The factory magazines are spendy but you can rely on them 100%. Most of the aftermarket mags, not so much. Brownell's and J&G Sales has them a little cheaper than Ruger.

As stated earlier, shop around. The price of original factory magazines is the only draw back for the Mini 14/30 as far as Iím concerned. Every aftermarket magazine Iíve bought has had an issue whether it was a 10,20 or 30 rounder, some would fail to feed, were difficult to lock in place, would not lock the bolt open on the last shot or were difficult to fully load, I gave up on them and bought some factory mags for both the Mini 14/30. Others have had good results. If you decide to purchase after market mags it might be a good idea to get them from a supplier who also carries original factory mags. Upon receiving them, take them out for a function test. If they have any failures you can probably send them back in exchange for original Ruger without paying additional shipping.

nks guys. I ordered 2 more Ruger 20 mags from CDNN. Saved me about $25. With the 2 mags I bought from Ruger I'm pretty well set up for the Mini 30. I have 4 Ruger mags for my my Mini 14 so I'm in good shape.

30rd Korean made magazine for Mini-30

CDNN has been carrying a Korean made 30rd mag that is very well made and is a bit larger than the 20rd so it fits nice in AR type mag pouches. Last time I saw them online CDNN was running them at less than 20 bucks. They mags are parkerized and the seams are clean up so no sharp edges. Promag make a good 30rd but they run about 30-35 and its more like a AK with the banana curve.

here is the link to the Korean made mags:
ZZZ Ruger MINI 30 762x39 30RD Korean Mag New

here is the link for the discussion of the mags:
http://www.perfectunion.com/vb/ruger...i-30-mags.html

I have owned my Mini-30 since 1994 and it was a Royal Pain to find good 30rd mags back then its nice to see and have the availability to get 20 and 30 rd mags that actually work!!! The Mini-30 is a Great Rifle that you can do all sort of things to it and the enough power to get the job done.

Try the "Triple K" brand 10 rd mags for the Mini30. I have 4 or 5 that all work good.
For the other free people the cheap 15 rd CDNN mag works good in my gun also. I tried the 5 rd and it was junk, but your mileage may vary. Never fail in the 20 rd Ruger mags - Midway may be the cheapest besides CDNN.

if you can find the 'american' brand mags - they're what 'usa' became after they got sued - get them. they were made in s/s also. out of bizz entirely now. I have several all fit/function 100%.
I also have couple promag 10's that do fine.
