Not a very scientific comparison but here are blowups of both. Same aspect ratio during zoom ...

So, nothing new there, either. Of course, they don't say it's new, either. I just assumed.... aha, now I see their plan.

I know, I was trolling (you probably knew that already).

What make you think a thicker barrel will make it shoot better? The 7.62x39 RPK's are reportedly not any more accurate than the standard AKM.

The threaded muzzle feature is a big plus, but the 16" barrel and thicker profile.... not necessaryly so.

Yes!

OH, I am so ready for this. I have wanted a mini 30 for a very long time and then some. I've got 2 mini 14's and I need a 30 to add to my collection, and the tactical one it will be. I just bought a 7.62x39 bolt rifle and I have been playing around with this caliber a bit and I really like it. Anyone know when it will be available?

May be thicker...

Red bars are all the same length. Interesting, take you calipers to your dealer
The lower image seems scaled very slightly smaller than the top (note the overall height of the front section. That means the barrel will have even a little more dimension.

Well, the barrel is thicker, but i'll bet its the same gas block, so a huge step in the barrel there.

RugerŪ Mini Thirty rifles, which have been extremely popular since first introduced in 1991,
1991? They introduced the first Mini-30 in 1986!

The red bars are the same length because you didn't extend the one in the second picture all the way to the bottom of the barrel- you stopped it at the graph line.

I think that is the point he was trying to make. The red lines are all the same, yet the barrel extends past it in the new (tactical) mini 30 photo. Furthermore, P15 also points out that the mini 30 tactical in the photo is slightly smaller than the top, making the barrel even a little larger (in comparison to the top) than in the photo.

Long story short, yes, if you ask me, the new tactical mini 30's barrel looks to be larger than the older models.

The catalog pictures were taken at a slightly different angle.

Look at the front sight. In one you can see the tip of both "ears" ... the other is a little flatter.

If measure both sights, they are roughly the same height ... that is the "constant" measurement.

If this is true, we can assume the rest is pretty much on the money ...

I've got one on the way to my local dealer. I was actually kind of hoping it would arrive today but no dice.

As soon as I get it, I'll take some measurements of the barrel and let you guys know what I get. I'll also try to get some good pics of the gun, etc. as soon as I can.

Maybe Monday...

The first time I shot my Mini 30 Tactical the scope rings did "shoot loose" on me. And every 1 out of 10 rounds being ejected would hit the windage knob on my scope.
