The others have sanded or polished the raised area around the firing pin hole or take a little off the back of the bolt. The other option is the longer firing pin, most agree that the heavier firing pin spring may not be the best answer.

A solution might be a slightly longer, wider, and softer firing pin might be the answer. Or a different metal or alloy. They should offer a voluntary recall on all 30s by general series, and upgrade the suckers. Very poor CS for not fixing this. Kinda crap the old man would have pulled.

It sounds reasonable. I think there may be a bit of the ghost of the old man in this... a fraternity or collusion with US ammo makers perhaps, or some other reason. I don't have issues with any ammo I've tried so far, but I don't doubt that other people are experiencing ignition failure with some types.
This wasn't an issue back in the day with Chinese Norinko/China Sports steel case, Berdan primed 7.62X39. The only East European stuff I had was Yugo brass case Hansen, which was made by what is now PPU Privi Partisan.
With somewhere around 800 rounds fired of various brands I've had exactly three fail to fire; one Korean manufactured PMC brass case, Boxer primed, and two Chinese Norinko steel case, Berdan primed. I still have all three in a little glass jar as souvenirs. I hope not to collect many more.

Its a commie round, I shouldnt have to search for some particular ammo that will work. My Mini-14 feeds and shoots everything. If I was going to expect to buy a Mini-30 to shoot both, but it dont. So I wont buy one!

I also have a 'commie' sks - it's just that I prefer my 30, and it surely shoots plenty good enough with good ammo!!

I was looking at the SKS very seriously at the time I bought my Mini-30. I could have acquired a top of the line SKS for a 3rd of the price I paid for the Mini-30. I couldn't get any SKS or AK to shoot as well as the Mini-30 with US manufactured ammo, which in the beginning is all anyone I knew had to shoot at the time. (1989) But yeah, the FTF issue has been beaten to death. If some of us can achieve virtually 100% ignition with steel case ammo that means all of us can. That's one of the reasons these forums are here.
Take my AK/AKM/SKS Web forum challenge. Pretend you have one even if you don't. Now begin imagining problems you might have with an AK or SKS. Now start searching the web using key words related to those problems. You will find people squawking all over the web about the problems they're having with their AK or SKS. An AK one of my friends had back then kept stove piping spent brass. It made an impression on me. I ended up going with the Mini-30 and still grad I did. I could have other 7.62X39 carbines in addition to it, but if I decided to get a second rifle chambered for the round I would get a second Mini-30.
I've been able to address any issues I've had with the Mini-30. I didn't like the sights, so I got better aftermarket sights. I invested in aftermarket high capacity mags before Ruger made their factory 20-rnd available to the general public. I installed a reduced gas bushing in the gas port, etc, etc.
What firearm does not benefit from tips, tricks, upgrades and hacks? It's part of the fun.

Well, I had a Chinese SKS and never had problems. Gave my cousin my Romanian AK-47 to babysit, and never had problems with it.
