Hello

Hi all, my name is Todd. Just bought my first mini 14. Its from what I have been able to research a 580 series Tactical. Waiting to pick it up. Can't wait to get it home. I have purchased a ProMag Archangel stock for it, which look amazing and have read great things about it. If anyone has knowledge of that stock, I would love to hear more on it.

Here is the link to the site.

WolfUFFU, you would be better off posting this as a thread in the main portion of the Mini boards below.

Hello! Ed here in Roanoke Virginia. Found the forum recently and appreciate the tone. Researching for a purchase and found lots of good information. Just sold the AR, never clicked with me and found myself leaving it sitting in the safe far too often. Mini appeals to me for the more conventional stock and the action. Hope to have one in hand soon. I did order extra mags already based on a tip here to a sale at CDNN.

Ed, welcome aboard from Central Virginia! You should love your Mini! If buying new, the 583-series is the most recent; some of the 582 series had problems that Ruger fixed.

Just picked up my first Mini 14 after wanting one for the last 30 years. It's a stainless 186 series non-ranch.

Looks like I've found a good place to get some info!

Used to be a ranch hand during the summer time out in Mexia, when I was in high school. Guy I worked for had ALOT of land. One of my responsibilities was to patrol the land and oil pumps for trespassers, vandals, squatters and such. Carried an old wood stock mini-14 all the time. I love this gun. Never had a problem hitting what I was shooting at. (Hogs, cyotes and various varmants. Never had to shoot any people, thankfully. Came close a few times though.) Of course I do consistently shoot 40-40, 39-40 when qualifying with my M-4 iron sights. So I'm something of a good shot I guess. Pisses the bravos off that their whiskey can shoot better than they can with their ACOG. I digress. Had a mini when I was a kid. Loved it. Just got a fancy tactical one and modded it up. Love it. Never had feeding issues with it. ALWAYS fingerbangin my GI M-4. Would carry my mini over M-4 any day of the week. Wish it was authorized.

Can someone please learn me up on how to post pictures from my phone on here.

I would like to contribute to the porn stash.

When I hit the add picture button it asks me for a URL. I can post any picture from the web. Can't figure out how to post my own pictures though.

Please help.....

Greetings

Great forum STILL!!!

Cut my teeth on 185 series 14/20GB and just loved that gun, but wasn't mine to keep.

So many years later - just about 3 ago - I happened across a series 582 SS at Cabelas for a crazy cheap price. Someone traded it in - appeared to never have been shot. I had them cut the wire tie that held the action open and it wouldn't close for love nor money.

Knowing it was a problem with the bolt stop assembly and even if I had to buy every part it would cost me less than $20, I struck an even better bargain.

Took it home, pinged the forum for some advice (hadn't handled one in a long long time) pulled it apart and removed a primer that had blown out of some cheap ammo no doubt and right in the little slot it went jamming it all up.

My guess is someone bought it and went to the range. Fired a couple rounds of cheap ammo and it locked up. Knowing Cabelas would tie the action open when they walked in the door they traded up and probably got a good deal on something.

So my huge gain when that bolt wouldn't drop. Somebody is probably missing their mini now.

I put an Accu-strut on it with the Nikon M-223 BDC and can crank dime-sized groups at 100 yds.

Just wish it had a flash suppressor to add a bit of old school cool to it.

Glad to be here!!!

Hello all, I joined the ranks of Mini-14 owners this morning by purchasing a blued, wood stocked Ranch rifle. Plan on breaking her in this Friday. Happy not to be a lurker anymore.

Hello all. Just picked up a new M-14. I liked it so much I purchased a new M-30 to go along with it. I'm such a gun nut. This is a great forum. Looking forward to interacting a bit.

Welcome from a fellow Mini 6.8 owner. Where did you find one of these rare rifles?
I just noticed your location, I grew up in Kennewick.

Well I'd been wanting one for a while and I found one on gun broker. It was majorly overpriced and like an idiot I was curious to see how much the 1 bidder had bid. I placed the next bid expecting that it would be rejected - but lucky me I became top bidder and no one else was silly enough to pay that much. It's at my FFL and I haven't even picked it up yet. He says its in great shape - possibly unfired. I'm going over tomorrow to get it and 2 para warthogs that I bought. I already have 2 20 round mags coming from idaho and am looking for a scope.
I need to stay off gun broker for a while.
I feel the need to stock up. As they say on Game of Thrones - winters coming.
I spent my college summers in Connell in wheat harvest and ran down to 3cities on rainy days. But things have changed since the mid 70's.
Btw -have you updated to the spc II chamber? Or is that not that important?

I did ream mine to SPCII. There were several reamers going around the forum that allowed that to happen. I took advantage. I don't know if there is still one available but I seem to recall someone finding one available a few months ago. You may ask in a thread in the forum.
Get reduced size bushings and/or Wilson 1911 buffers or your brass will be flying into the next county. I put the buffers in and it cut it to about 12 feet. I bought the bushings but have not installed them yet.
Enjoy your Mini, I love shooting mine. Powerful enough to hunt deer with and not much more recoil than a 22LR. Also very accurate.

New guy from Mass. Not a big fan of AR platform. I picked up a Mini 14 right before our lovely AG decided to start "reinterpreting" 20 year old laws.
Mine is a Blue/Synthetic ranch rifle.

This forum is a wealth of knowledge, hopefully I'll be able to contribute something...but at this point I sure am learning a lot

First post!

I got my Mini 14 583 series a few weeks ago. Its actually not a bad shooter. slightly above MOA on some 55g ZMAX/26g CFE-223/2.20 OAL loads that I threw together to play with. I put 300 down range and the rifle performed wonderful. I was able to hit the 18" gong at 250yrds about half the time and hit the 12" 125yrd gong every time with the factory sights

I'm running ladder tests now and hope to settle on a Varget or BLC-2 load for the 55g ZMAX since I have a good supply for those powders.

That's what brought me here, looking for good reload info specific to this rifle.

I also tried out the Tapco 30 round mags (I bought a few) as well as the factory 20 rounders and the 5 rounder I bought for bench work. They all functioned very good.

Got mine from a very small gun shop near me. They checked all their distributors and only found one available in Nov. 2008. I bought it. Ruger discontinued the 6.8 shortly after.

Hello fellow mini shooters!

I have been reading this forum for around two years and finally registered. I stumbled across this site by accident while looking for some information on AK-47 parts, then started reading about the Mini 14 on here and that is what peaked my interest in the Mini.
A short time after finding this site I purchased a 187 series Mini. I absolutely loved the look and ergonomics of the gun, shot a few hundred rounds from it, and decided to buy the Mini that I really wanted. Sold the 187 series and purchased a 583 series stainless with a 16” threaded barrel.
I have learned allot from you guys and want to thank you all for sharing your Mini 14 knowledge!
