Not sure if I posted here, but won't hurt to introduce myself, my first centerfire rifle was a 180-1-2? Series Mini 14, had loads of fun shooting it back in the 80's, it is a very pointable carbine, and I learned back then, don't go adding big variable power scopes to it, and mess up the balance.

Enjoy all of the information here, posting from Virginia.

Hello, just signed up and wanted to say thanks. I've
been reading material here, off and on for a while, and
thought it was time to introduce myself. I'm from
Southern California, and got my first mini back in
early 1980's. This forum is a great community, I've
learned a lot... Cheers!

Glad to find the forum. Just learning the mini-14, just got a 5847 Tactical. Having not the best of luck adjusting the ghost ring. Considering options for optics.

Smile Newby, looking forward to share and learn.

I have an older Ranch Rifle and it had a terrible trigger... just had Brimstone Gunsmithing do a job on it ($35) and it is really great. It breaks at 3+ pounds and is smooth and crisp.
Now I will look for a couple of spare 10 round magazines.

Good shooting,

New member here, I Just bought a model 5846 mini 14 tactical last week and I love the look and feel of it so far! I have wanted a mini since the early 80's and I made myself go get one. IMO you can't buy a better rifle at this price!

Hello all!

Great to be someplace where the Mini is recognized for what it is... one of the best battle rifles ever made! After using the M-14 in service (though, to be honest, I usually grabbed the Remington 870 for Visit, Board, Search and Seizure... buck shot + steel decks, bulkheads and overheads = whole lot of destruction. ) and shooting my dad's Mini-14, I finally had to have one.

Its taken me over 20 years to get to this point, but what an awesome day next Saturday will be, picking up my new (slightly used) 58x.

Cool Hello new members forum

582 SS/Syn, 1911 washer, Accu-Strut, Ruger Rings, Simmons 3-9x50 , 5rd mags abound, extended mag release hopefully

My receiver is stamped 5.56 NATO. Stock could be tighter fit at gas block.

Basic model not tact'ed up. Some guys in these pages have built it into a spec ops battle rifle 9-10lbs. I applaud them.

Reliable and resiliant machinery is what those guys at ruger do best.

New Mini 30

Hi all!! Allow myself to introduce...myself. (yes I know I already used that joke) How's everyone doing??

So I'm new to long guns and got myself a new 582 series Mini Thirty in stainless with black synthetic stock. Just love the look and feel of it!! Taken it to the range twice now and I'm really really please at how it shoots, especially as I said I'm completely new to long guns. Getting about 3/4" groups at 25 yards. May not sound like much to some/most, but for me I'm pretty happy with it and I know with practice, training, and time it'll get even better. I'll post some photos soon. Just wanted to say hello (and trying to get my number of posts up so I can PM, lol). Thanks and I'm really looking forward to learning from you guys and sharing photos and stories.

Hey from Virginia!

Technically, I'm not "new" on the forum, but I have been out of the loop after buying then selling my Mini 14 - for an AR at the advice of a friend.
Finally bought one last week as I always liked it but could not afford two. Oh, man, maybe I'm old school (even though trained with the classic 16 in the Army), but I love everything about this rifle and it's not going anywhere.

Good Day Everyone

I just wanted to say hello to everyone and that I finally have a new Mini 14 in my stable, she followed me home a couple of days ago and she is a beauty, her receiver is even stamped 5.56 Nato which I think is very cool, now I just have to go sight her in and have some fun.

Take care

Hi Everyone, new member here. I have a Mini 14 188 series I bought in 1994 and a 10/22 I bought around that same time. I haven't had much opportunity to shoot them a lot. Recently I discovered this site and that rekindled my interest. So, I ordered 1000 rounds of .223 and 1000 of .22 and started hitting the range.

I picked up 3 factory mags for the Mini 14 and 5 rotary ones for the 10/22 as well as the 50 round BX that was on sale. Since I bought my mini and 10/22 just weeks before the Clinton ban of 94, there were no factory mags available, so all I've had is aftermarket ones that weren't reliable at all, thus the main reason I rarely shot them.

Then ... I read here about spraying silicone spray in the aftermarket ones to make them work better and not stick so much. So I did that, and went to the range yesterday and ran thru 3 stainless 30's and 2 blue 40's without a hitch. Totally unexpected but great. So maybe I didn't need to buy those factory ones after all but they did load that first round much smoother and easier than the aftermarket ones that took a bit of a push on the bolt to load.

Anyway, looking forward to learning a lot more here and making some friends with common interest in the Rugers.

Steve

Hi All, I'm proud new owner of a used Ruger Mini-30 , its stainless steel, serial # 189-527xx, I think made in 1993, nice green laminate stock, looks like a ranch rifle, but it doesn't say ranch on the receiver, flip up rear blade sight, Ruger mounts on the receiver, and single blade front post. I haven't shot it yet, and did not know there were many variances to the mini 30 until I bought this one. I got a bunch of Russian, Yugo, and other 7.62x39 steel cased ammo, but from what I hear they have FTF on mini-30, are the older one better or worse with this ammo?
