They do eject up/sideways to the right, pending on the load it can hit a scope mounted over the bolt. I never had any issues with brass falling back into the bolt/chamber area. It’s a proven design that operates well with or without a scope.

I think the "vertical" nomer is a bit extreme. Mine ejects at about 10-15 from vertical. "More vertically" in comparison to the Ranch and later models is a better description.
