Replacing the 10/22 stock buttplate with a non-slip

Wanting to replace the hard plastic stock buttplate on the 10/22, the one that makes it seem like it is about to slide sideways and fall over each time the rifle is stood upright in a corner, with a non-slip rubber kind. This is a compact model stock.

Does anyone know of a made-to-fit pad for this stock, or am I having to do a grind-to-fit job?

I went through this myself, after I swapped to a youth-length laminate stock on one of my 10/22s.

I never did do anything about it, but I did determine the only option was a grind-to-fit.

A few options, it seems to me - none of which I have pursued:
1) a rubber base to replace the Ruger piece. Plenty out there.
2) some no-slip adhesive tape (found in Lowes/HD for safety).
3) rubberized adhesive (like Plasti-Dip for tool handles) or Flexible Sealer/rubber (found in Lowes/HD), properly applied.

Visit the local skateboard shop. Get skateboard tape and put it on the butt plate. Viola.

Want to sell that buttplate? I believe it is aluminum, if it is stock Ruger. They went to plastic decades ago.

The recoil pad you are looking for is a 1 inch Tacbro, it fits a Mini and a 10/22. They are real expensive, like $9.

A better option would be the John Masen butt plate and gives about an inch more in pull. It has the same curve as the factory one. It won't wiggle like the slip on pad.

thanks but no......mine's a 1974 10/.22 no A,B,C....just a 10/.22 rifle.
Dad gave it to me for my 11th birthday and except for a nylon sling, lighter trigger and 32 rd. mag...it's exactly as it was the day I got it!

Herman, Sandog (on this forum) had a brilliant solution: some no-slip tape (mainly intended for steps) applied to the butt-plate. Easy to apply (or remove). Found in every hardware store and far less expensive than a cup-o-coffee.

I used to have the Choate version of this back before the AWB: https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1004673628?pid=425407

Can't guarantee the one from Masen is identical, but it looks just like what I used to have and it made the short factory 10/22 stock just right in my opinion.

Grumpy
PS No way in heck that thing will fit a modern 580+ series stock, midway really needs to update that listing....

I like the same butt plate and that it screws on so it won't move nor wiggle. It also gives a longer pull which I like. I used on until I added a retractable AR style stock and a Yugo AK pistol grip to mine so my children could use it until they grew up. Tapco made something similar with a straight stock or with a drop. Mine has a drop while someone in Michigan made one with an inline collapsible stock.

Or just cut a narrow strip of no-slip safety tape and apply to the butt plate.
