I used to carry a SKS in the truck until their price quadrupled over what i paid for mine. Now I carry a little 410 single shot break open that has a 3 inch mag 20 inch barrel. I keep a variety of shells that consist of slugs, buckshot, and bird-shot.
I look at a "Truck Gun" as something that will kill a deer or snake that stays in the truck. Also, if my truck gets broken into, I haven't lost a valuable weapon that has a lot of firepower.

Now your cooking with gas. My commute is so short I would be hard pressed to find a place on the way home to shoot.

Mr Crockett007 you carry that thing in your truck when your driving through Opelika or more like Wetumka? I remember my days living in Alabama. It was nice to go out in the country and shoot a few off. I loved it.

Meh.... My "truck gun" is an SKS. What I REALLY want is a really, CRAPPY looking SKS with a really scuffed up stock, pitted metal, duct tape holding the gas tube on, but functional, with a halfway decent bore. Probably would end up my favorite gun.:p

Other than the duct tape that you can add yourself, the Sino-banians that have come on the market during the past year fit that bill nicely.

338 fed ar-10
We live 200 miles up a dirt road open 5-6 months every summer from nx nearest town in Alaska, kinda rural I guess you'd call it. My 338 FED Armalite has become the trk gun. We often catch grizzly bear walking the road when we make our supply runs into Fairbanks. The AR-10 works just fine, the bear are off the road crashing through brush quicker than you'd imagine. Have also shot moose & caribou road hunting with the 338 fed.

Posted earlier about my Big iron. If I am in Lamo Kalif where you cant have a loaded weapon in your vehicle.. This is my back up. I think it fits in the Big iron category also. Not a gun but it is a deadly projectile. And yes. I know the ways of Okichitaw. My Tomahawk Always sits in handy reach between my front seats.

I have something very similar sitting under the front seat of my truck in easy reach. Although I don't know the ways of the Okichitaw.

How about a Norinco that was an estate sale find, left in the attic for some time? Rust rash all about.

Actually, my truck gun was an Iver Johnson M1 carbine with a reproduction folding stock.
Don't travel as much now.

The M1 would make a nice truck gun. You would have to keep it up nice so it wouldn't ruin.

M1 carbine, Iver Johnson and repro folding stock, behind the driver's door of the F250 Super cab--before the extra door--in an upright plastic box.
Totally innocent plastic upright box.

truck 1976
First of the Ford Supercabs.
No "mini" door. Just a wall.
Really awkward loading tool boxes and luggage.
And the rear seatback folded DOWN, not the rear seats folding UP.
A bit of cord held the plastic box.
Just handy behind the driver's side.
[handle is supposed to be "coastie"
a tpying error is perpetuated all season.]

guns left in vehicles better be WELL hidden/secured
One of the beautiful things about driving/owning a van is all that wall space, behind the paneling. :-)

living in an OC state makes it easy.......I have sewn a 1911 holster to the front of my truck seat just beside my calf.(pistol locks in my glove box when i'm at work)
if I need a long-gun, my '59 Romanian SKS fits perfectly under or behind the "X-cab" rear seat.('98 Silverado 3 door)
