Schumer's "universal background checks"

This sums it up better than I can:

We Have Language for S. 374, the Transfer Ban | Shall Not Be Questioned

and for the text:

http://www.judiciary.senate.gov/legi...d/ALB13180.pdf

Its official: the "universal background checks" is a nightmare. Call/write/email/be the biggest (polite and legal) PITA imaginable to your Senators (most important) and Reps (2nd line of defense).

Best,
Grumpy

How insensitive and politically incorrect they said "Indian tribal governments".
What happened to Native American and while were on the subject what about the Muslims and Sharia law?
Let me guess they'll be exempt remember it doesn't exist in the U.S.

Schumer is the biggest ass kisser I have ever heard. If Obungler turns too quick Chucky would get his nose broke it's so far up his ass. Not only that, he's even dumber than Biden to boot.

I've pointed it out before, but you folks in NY voted this dip$hit into office, and keep on voting him back into office.

Therefore, I'm not supprised to see this nonsense, or the epic failure of the freedom and liberty of those folks in NY.

This bill is a do nothing.

Even if Schumer and company are able to include a nation wide gun or gun owner registry later it won't be implemented any better than the current NICS system is and that system is on the verge of a melt down.

Senator Schumer is a man who loves the limelight. Most everyone I know has voted against him every time he has ran for the senate. I wouldn't mind so much his liberal tendencies if I thought he was a man of honor holding firm to his beliefs. Who would hold such a belief?

I think it's called voter fraud. we have the same thing going on in northern illinois. we need some serious voter reform in this country.

Hi hottarod; No offense, but read the analysis at the first link. If you hand your buddy a gun at a "non approved range" (i.e. let your buddy fire your rifle on your back yard range, etc) you're a felon. It doesn't so much cover sales as it does cover transfers and a lot of things we don't think of as "selling a gun" are covered as "transfers".

Can they enforce it on everyone? No, but since ordinary things you do as a gun-owner become felonies it allows the feds to burn a certain number of us annually, with a lifetime prohibition on gun ownership and a chilling effect on the rest of us. Its all about de-normalizing gun ownership.

That's why we gotta put some effort into beating this one too.

Best,
Grumpy

I have a question for the gun grabbers. Since I have had all kinds of background checks, for my CCP, (criminal, psych, physical, etc..), why can't I buy a handgun in a state other than where I live, even if they honor my CCP. Why would you also limit the number of guns I can buy at one time?

Real reason for the gun laws is to punish gun owners, because they hate us and what we stand for, period. Guns are the symbol of the old America they want destroyed. Remember flotus' bit about "finally being proud of America" - they figure that there's been a revolution and they won it. Our America is the one they want destroyed so they could never be proud to be part of the old American Republic.

They won't answer it that way, but it's the truth.

If the progressives could it would be "hand 'em in tomorrow you nasty right wing white middle aged male gunowners", since it would give them an excuse to imprison or kill their political enemies. And anyone who goes along with them will still be persecuted - "gosh that guy used to have guns, maybe he has one hidden", so anyone who thinks there's an "out" by surrendering, no such luck. We just plain gotta beat 'em and take our Republic back. Hopefully using ballots.

I did see that part about loaning guns. I think the bill catches all that including range rentals as temporary transfers?

Some time back I came to the decision that I would not allow anyone else to even hold any fire arm that I own and vice versa much less to let some body borrow one. Too many people are law suit happy and regardless of how careful we are something could happen. It is not worth the risk.

Hi hottarod; That's what we're supposed to think, but it only applies to

(i) at a shooting range located in or on premises owned or occupied by a duly incorporated organization organized for conservation purposes or to foster proficiency in firearms and the firearm is, at all times, kept within the premises of the shooting range;
(ii) at a target firearm shooting competition under the auspices of or approved by a State agency or nonprofit organization and the firearm is, at all times, kept within the premises of the shooting competition;

IOW, your backyard range does not count. Nor does it count if someone is breaking into your house and you loan a buddy a gun. Nor does it count if you loan your wife a concealed carry piece (maybe hers is getting repaired, etc).

That's your business, but it should not be mandated by law that we all must obey those rules. I don't generally loan them out either, but I often take new guys out shooting; going to have to be careful to only go to a "duly incorporated organization" and not into some scrub land in the future if this passes.

It really is the death of 1000 cuts. Lets beat this thing and keep 'em from passing anything at all!

Grassley dissected it and it is very oppressive and restrictive...scary bad legislation. Of course, we realize it will automatically come out of the commitee, but the rest of the process is WAY harder. Democrat controlled senate? maybe..maybe not on this issue. Republican controlled house? definitely.
