Why doesnt the government subsidize daycare?

If the government truly wanted to help the middle class, why not subsidize daycare?

I know families that are forced to make a decision, the mom stay at home with the children, or pay just about everything she makes to daycare.

My step daughter was working for a local doctors office. When she added everything up, just about every penny she made was going to daycare. What incentive do people in that situation have to stay in the work force?

I hate to say this, but when the mother stops working, their income level drops so that the family could draw food stamps. With 2 children, my step daughter was right at the border of drawing food stamps.

Should the government subsidize daycare and let people work, or subsidize food stamps and let people stay home?

At least in the work force they are paying something in social security, hopefully paying something into medicare/medicaid and contributing something to society.

For single mothers that work minimum wage jobs, daycare eats up their entire paycheck.

Why should single moms go to work only to give daycare their pay check?

Then there is the college question. How is a single mother supposed to work, go to college, if she does not get help with the kids?

That's a good question. It might encourage some people to get off their asses and get a job.

You lost me right about the point you started talking about single mothers. If we (the government) were to subsidize daycare for single mothers wouldn't that be the same as rewarding them for having children out of wedlock? I think we should discourage the practices that cause there to be single mothers if at all possible. I know that there are cases where the husband is killed, or just plain deserts the family or other cases that are not any fault of the mother's but, too many of the cases are just plain and simple lack of morals or lack of any idea what birth control was designed to to and those cases should be discouraged if at all possible. It is this lack of morals that has caused many of the problems in this country in my opinion and parents need to go back to being parents and teaching their children right from wrong and quit leaving child raising up to the school system.

You are absolutely correct.

There are plenty of programs that “reward” single mothers; programs for education, housing, supplementing food and health. However, if you are not a single parent and want to better yourself you are on your own. Our current system rewards immoral behavior and punishes a less fortunate individual. There are plenty of “anchor” babies that allow families to benefit from the governments dole. I don’t have a solution to the problem; however, there are people out there that do have solutions. If someone mentions reducing a program of free money you have every bleeding heart screaming to the high heavens.

Are you among those who would criminalize single mothers' access to abortion, woodstock?

Off Topic but I am not ashamed of the fact that I would make abortion only available in extreme medical emergencies. (if at all). It goes back to what I said about parents teaching their children morals. Keep you pants on or use birth control if you don't want children. Murdering an unborn child is no different than if I picked up a gun and shot you right now.

How about keeping it simple (something the progressives can't understand) and going with the old standby IE If YOU can't feed-em, DON'T breed-em

A loaded question you mean.

I'm only pointing out your inconsistency.

I do favor subsidized daycare, but it would be preferable for one parent to earn a living wage, then daycare would not be needed.

But the plutocrats and their right wing dupes prefer a system that maximizes income disparity and makes most people poor.

They can live with their parents, or have them watch the kids while at work. The "government" dug this hole themselves, now they're 16 trillion in debt and have no way out, so unless they can pay for it without robbing the working man I say no.

Day care is for people who have jobs or going to college.

No, nothing loaded about it. Just a straight forward simple question.
In what way are you pointing out any inconsistency?

We also need to cut welfare in all forms to illegal aliens and legal immigrants, at least we could use that money to pay for all these other peoples kids if forced to.

Leaving the country is sounding better to me all the time.

It's quite easy, and more americans are doing it to protect their own money before the kenyan comes for it and gives to savages like you who don't deserve any money at all.

If you are working and paying taxes, then who's paying for the day care? Or did you want to put it on the Bank of China charge card for that child you love so much to pay for?

Oh that's right.. You want my wife and I to pay for it because we only have the one child we knew we could afford and not two. Glad you can have two for being irresponsible while we only have one for being responsible. Now you're going to need more from us, making it harder to care for the only one we have now. Stop being such a thief.

Getting sick of socialist nitwits.

Hey everybody! Great idea here! Things would be so much easier and make my life better if I used the brute force of government to take your money and give it to me! Am I a freeking genius or what?

I totally understand your point. Or should I say, points. Unless you are rich, you and your wife shouldn't have to pay for it. I support raising taxes for the rich, not the middle class.

Your other point, that people should not irresponsibly have children they can't afford to support, is partly valid. No one can predict their economic circumstances in three to five years, certainly not the average worker in this country.

And, disincentivizing childbirth can be fraught with unintended consequences. Even so, in some cases I'm for it, but we should do everything possible to ensure the end results aren't dysfunctional or stunted childhoods. In addition to the fundamental human decency aspect, we pay a high social price for those.
