I really like what you have done. She looks good. I have a old 181 mini 14 I wish I could get a new tactical barrel that ruger puts on their new ones, put on her. She has the old wood on her . I like the wood color on yours, you have me thinking of stripping mine now. This is what mine looks like now. I think she would be better with the finish like yours.

Mind if I ask how much, since I didn't see any info about that type of conversion on the web site?

Wondering if I would be better off buying a new 30 or getting old 14 to convert.

Great work! the bayonet thing is a great idea and looks amazing. If you put some leather oil on that bayo handle it will darken and match the wood lol. Beautiful rifle and great idea with the lug. Can't wait to see the finished product.

Thanks, the oil on the bayonet handle is a good idea, I'll have to try it.
I can't wait to see the finished product either, I have Lee working on a few other projects before I have him do this.

well, as I'm waiting for Lee to complete a few other of my projects, I looked at the one problem that was just driving me nuts, the lack of using Russian ammo.
A gentleman here on this forum did outstanding work on the firing pin a hammer spring.

Original trigger weight was approximately 6.5 pounds.
Put the extra power spring in and then it measured at 7 pounds.
Did some minor adjustments and pull is now 4.25 pounds. No angle or creep changes made. Still .002" positive.
Overall, the trigger is smooth for an original factory one.

The extra power spring will help on hard primers, but it willn't totally eliminate the failure to fire issue. Many Mini 30 owners experience the same scenario with hard primers.

He heat treated the firing pin for long life and extra strength, also extended the tip that comes in contact with the primer for a deeper strike.

I have fired 500 rounds of wolf WPA military classic and the poly-preformace all of which was 100% no problems, excepted the Tula, that stuff is just junk.

I'm just not sure if he would like me to give out his name and the info right now.
I'll have to ask him.

GreyWolf,

That is one sweet Mini 30 for sure n for certain! Something Ruger should have built back in the day. I like the carbine bayo lug idea, alot. If you don't mind me asking how much did the conversion cost ya?

Greywolf

This is my concept, I machined it out of stainless steel and blasted it to match my rifle. It is a bolt-on and I left the rifle factory stock using a modified M16 bayonet. Sorry my camera does not take good close-ups, but you get the idea.

I love the stock on it. I am going for that look with the 189 Mini-30 I picked up a few weeks ago. I picked up a wood hand guard, the factory stock is a really light blond color. I don't like it, will try to stain it darker, but not sure if the birch will take the stain that well. I might end up ordering a walnut stock for it. Thanks for sharing the pics !
