Question Interrogative - request assistance

Warm greetings there, Rockman ~

Sharp looking weapon you got there.

I'm interested in the scope mount you've got on your Mini. Like you I've got a Tapco stock, but am not pleased with the upper hand-guard where my red-dot is forward mounted. I think the 'system' connecting this upper is cheesy and have concerns that it ain't holding a good 'zero'. Thinking about slapping my factory-made upper back on (like you've got).

Anyway, got some questions to run by ya':

1. Who makes that scope mount you're using and how much does it cost?

2. Is it difficult to install?

3. Does it have Picitinny rails?

4. Have you experienced any ejection 'stoppages' due to the close proximity of the mount? is she cycling well for you with that outfit?

5. Do you find the spent casings ejecting forward? asking this 'cause I'm lefty with long-guns.

Thanks kindly for your assistance. Adios...

Respectfully,
Billy

What he said.

Wondering what mount that is also. I've been hem-hawing about getting one like that. Read a good number of negative reports about them loosening after a few hundred rounds, thus losing zero. Trying to get something that I can put on and not lose zero with. I've got a Tapco fusion just like it and the issue with putting a sight on the upper handguard is you have to take it off to really clean it. Getting sick of re-zeroing everytime I clean it.

my ATI tactical mini

Hi, all. my name is jim and here is my mini. it has an NCStar reddot and flashlight, an extended bottom rail from Midway, Academy sports front pistol grip, single point sling and case, 5mW green laser from Dealextreme and Ruger factory 20 and 30 round mags. The pistol is a Taurus 24/7 Pro .45 with 5 12 round mags and if all else fails i have the Gerber, which, i'm told, was almost Marine issue but they went with something cheaper. I love the folding and collapsable stock. this gun is so versitile, the multiple rails allowed me to add lots of useful "stuff" to make it truly badass!

ok guys i cant post the pics over here, the thing says the pics are already on my other post. so go to: http://perfectunion.com/vb/showthread.php?t=73944 to see the pics unless one ov you can help

Here's mine. Nothing fancy. Chopped to 16 1/8, UltiMAK with a Burris XTS-135 dot sight.

Great idea for a thread BTW.

Socom-14

My particular vision was to make a Mini-14 version of a Socom-16.

'05 Stainless 580 series under matte black guncote w/Smith brake, Amega Ranges scout mount, and a full house Gundoc job. Trigger job, glass bedding (that is the wood stock, I prefer it) gas bushing, brazed brake, barrel cut & crowned to finish at like 16.25 or so w/brake, and an extra lug underneath.

As I said in the Mags forum, I am just the lug who shoots it.

Mini-14 Tactical with a 16.25" barrel and flash hider, featuring an Ultimak rail and Aimpoint Micro H-1. The stock is a factory plastic stock painted OD green with Brownells Aluma-Hyde.

Looks great, man! I really dig the Ultimak rail, along with the Tapco stock Hmm? I'm getting ideas now for my own Tapco-dressed Mini's.

Again, nice looking rig. ;^)

hello all

I'm trying to upload some pictures of my skinny barrel 580. I hope they are not too big. It looks like the lighting was not the best. This is a 580 Mini I squeezed into a 183 stock. kwg

The whole clan

Here is the whole clan together. The bottom rifle is a 30 carbine but the other three are Mini 14's. The top one is a skinny barrel 580 with a wood stock. The middle one is an ASI middle weight barrel and the bottom is an ASI with a heavy barrel. kwg

Nice collection kwg! How does shooting that 30 Carbine compare to a mini-14 (accuracy, recoil, report, etc)?

I must confess. I have not shot the 30 carbine. Many years ago I shot one that belonged to a friend and the recoil of the carbine is less but that's the only difference I can tell you. I spend more time looking at my guns than shooting them. The 30 carbine is a CMP rife. I also have 6 M-1 Garands and out of the 6 I've shot one. The Mini, the carbine and the Garands all feels similar and seem to shoot very similar. I guess that's why I like them. kwg

It is called a strut rod. It is a popular, relatively low cost mod to help reduce barrel harmonics and improve accuracy. I'm not sure where to get them..mine is a 580 and it appears their tapered barrels really don't benefit from it.

The strut on Rockman42's mini is a 1st generation Accu-strut (http://www.accu-strut.com/). They have moved on to a 2nd gen version which looks better but serves the same function. Soon, they will release a short "SOCOM" version of the Accu-strut made specifically for the short-barrelled 580 tactical minis. I'm not convinced the shorter strut will do anything, but I bet it will look great!

Sorry, I had not logged on in a while. Been to busy shootin'

I love the feel of that stock, it is not "painty" or "plasticky" feeling and is really holding up well to all the crap I abuse it with shooting out in the canyons here in the low desert.
