Restored a Marlin mod.1897 recently

a couple months ago a friend asked me if I could find parts for, and restore his 1st year Marlin 1897 .22. (the fore-runner of the 39, 39a etc.)

This was such an early example that the ONLY thing separating it from the '91-92 was the fact that it was a takedown.

Also learned that Wisners is the best place online to find NEW parts for firearms of that era.

The resto was totally successful, except he wouldn't let me bore and sleeve the sewer pipe of a barrel, but he said it was just a plinker now

i'll upload pics if I ever decide to pay for a photo host......i'm still sore from the photobucket piracy affair

This was a Model 39 that Marlin rebarreled to the modern 1897 octogon bbl for me. I reshaped the clunky buttstock into the nice lines of the 1897 and slimmed and remounted the forearm. Turned out nice. Look forward to seeing your work.

I really like that !!

I recently rebuilt a 39A for the same guy that had been sitting as parts wrapped in a towel since the '70s......someone had tried to force feed a bad round and broken some parts in the carrier system and broken the tip off the ejector as well....also bent the outer mag tube to the point I had to replace inner & outer both.

it turned out really well in the end though............
