Replacing sights on Marlin 336?

A couple of months ago I found a Marlin 336 that had been made in 1976 at a local gun store. The sights are pretty much useless in low light. So I thought about replacing them with something a little more modern.

The question I keep asking myself, should I mess with a rifle that was made in the 1970s?

In all honesty, the rifle is not "that" old. But it seems a shame to mess with the rifle. Then again, what is a little modernization going to hurt?

Midway USA has some truglo sights that have some poor reviews. so I do not want to go with them.

Suggestions?

I went with the XS sighting system on my 1895. Not sure if they make one for your model or if you like ghost ring sights.

Hi Kevin

Hey just went through the same thing on my 1980 336. I bought a set of Williams FS336 sights. Great sights. The nice thing is they have click adjustments for elevation and windage. Very precise. Also they take different peep sights. If you like you can leave the peep out and use the rear without it as a ghost sight The font fire sight stands out like a sore thumb. I had the same problem not being able to see the front stock sight. Not any more. I even have the hood on it and it is still bright. You can also leave the stock rear sight on if you like. I did.

I just bought a second set from my 1894 but haven't put them on yet. Still trying to get a good hand load for the 336. Remington factory rounds are pretty good but I can't find the combo for a hand load for her.

OP, what did you go with? Old thread, and you never said... I have the XS scout system on my 336 and I like them a lot. I had a Sig Romeo 5 on it for a while but put it on my Rossi 92 now, so the 336 is irons only now. Probably get a scout scope soon< or another Romeo 5. Good red dot. I like them for the money.
