The venerable Springfield 1911A1 was my duty pistol.

I have a CZ 97B 45ACP now which is a lot like it but also double AND single action.

Oh, those folks will be along soon to tell you of their 18 Months of Glory. Thirty Years seems like such a waste of time if you can do it all and see it all in just a handful of Months.
Hell, even folks in Tanks want to tell people armed with a Knife they are "Posers" expletive not displayed.
I've met this type before, don't have time to waste on them.
Want to guess who loses? I Know the Combat I went Through, I don't need to share any of it with any of you. Ya'll don't want to hear about it anyway.

SOM, break down the years that interest you most, and I will do what I can. This is close to an apology. But if I get to technical, the Navy only has one M-14, it is the M25. All others can be mistaken for the M-21. A Mangrove Stoner might not be the Black Rifle you grew up with. Should We really continue this conversation? CO Stupid will come along and call me a "Poser". But he never played in any of the other Reindeer Games! Of course you must pay the price for his ineptitude.

None of those little small arms would do. When you fire on a city you want to destroy it.

Early on it was the M2A2 and M16A2 for long guns, K38 and M9 for sidearms.
(later we went to the M4's, etc)

I was first in during the transitional period, truth be told I preferred the M2 & K38 over the others. They were both more reliable and handled better in day to day use.
The M1/2 Carbine is still my favorite U.S. Military weapon of all time, its what I still use day to day on our ranch for a working gun, and often for vehicle/home defense as well.

While often looked down upon by those that have never used one, there isn't any practical use here in the U.S. that the Carbine can't easily handle, from hunting to self defense its a gem

Only two. The M14 from 1966-69 and M16 in 1968. Love 'em both and have civilian versions today.

I always wanted to be issued a 45ACP but had to wait until I got out of the Army then bought my own.

Cannon are an interesting crew served weapon type, which like all other crew served weapons first depend on a fortified infantry line to protect them from infantry counterattack.

Ships planes and tanks need infantry to protect their bases. The ships planes and tanks cannot foray out without a strong home base to resupply and refuel from. This base must always be protected by boots on the ground.

Anciently, the infantry that served with ships was called marine infantry. We still use the term today.

In modern times the infantry that serves with tanks is called mechanized infantry.

Ergo the big guns must be supported by the little guns, which in turn receive support from the big guns too.

And the modern air forces could not possibly survive without modern infantry protecting them on the ground.

Everything always depends on one man with his rifle/carbine and/or pistol, each being mustered into fire teams, squads, platoons, companies, battalions, regiments, brigades, divisions, corps, groups, and theatres.

That should be a good google start. Many people oversea's had a blast with the Beretta M93R, it was a continued variation of the full auto M951R.

I heard from a few A-stan vets that the Beretta was not a great desert gun, and they wished they had the 1911A1 back.

Word is that the USMC is going to abandon the 9mm in favor of a new 45ACP.

Somewhere on this forum: Heckler & Koch :: Product Overview | HK45
was a discussion on replacing the M9.

I dropped a link for McMillan and the 63 Stoner used by the Navy into post #6, for all practical purposes the Stoner was a Froggy thing. Hope you enjoy.

Talking Beings you asked

I had a M14 rifle while in boot camp & ITR and later at my first duty station as a MP at El Toro airbase , where I carried a 1911 and a Winchester model '97 12ga. trench gun at times !

Later on when I got my WESPAC orders , mostly because they took my ammo away while I guarded president " Tricky Dick Nixon " and pissed this Marine off ! Figured that I needed to go where they don't take your ammo from you except from the business end of my weapon !

While in Nam I had a M-16A2 , was my first time seeing any while in the Corps , plus I had a grease gun (non - issued to me at least ) !

I would be later on be a WEEKEND WARRIOR in the Army NG and my weapons were M-16 A2s besides a TOW mounted on a track and a ground mounted 81 MM mortar ( how I love that 81 ).

Here's me back in 1970 in Nam at Chu Lai , RVN and my grease gun !

Some of my Best Friends are Boatswain's, Even the Fore deck ape type. Baby Boat's went Aviation and took a ride on one of the Old (Kitty) Boats of my day. Takes allot more than Jim Beam to qualify as a Coxswain, at least in my day. My time was NEC/WOC Driven. I started as a Non-designated Seaman Deuce out of Boot Camp, and had a Crow Hanging by the time I qualified as a Combat Swimmer. I have great pride and respect for Veterans, not just those that I served with Boat's. Sometimes in these keyboard conversations some Vet's Have been Burned. Any Vet that has a keyboard problem with Me, probably wouldn't have a Checkerboard Problem with me. I don't think I need to say more if you are as savvy as you claim. Thanks Boat's, but I'll differ on answering your question.

PS: Was that NAS Ford Island or was it the "Dark Side Luke". Might of had to whip up on an MAA or two. Maybe you should contact Marlin 45.
