I'd like to add this. If you kids, younger than 50, wonder about the M-1 Carbines mentioned here, it's not because we were in WWII or Korea (at least I don't think so).

When I joined up in '65 we qualified with the M-1 Carbine because all the M-16s were diverted to Army & Marines that were training or "In Country". The M-14 was in use as well. My friend was Air Police, guarding fuel bladders at one of the air bases. He carried the M-14.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but there were so many deployed Americans, that all spare arms were distributed, until AR production was ramped up.

OMG! It just dawned on me. I'm a senior citizen. Well, that sucks.

Don't know what your problem is cause IF U weren't a "senior citizen" you'd be pushing up daisys!!!
I may not get a whole lot wiser as I get older, but I have NO problem getting older!!!

We had worn out, shot out M16A1. The Army was phasing the A2's in as I was leaving. They were still fairly accurate.

Basic Training - M-14
AIT - Early model (3 prong) M-16
Viet Nam - Started off with a M-16 and a .45 pistol. Later on I ended up with a XM-21 sniper rifle and a .45 pistol until I left and DEROS.
