5 guns only

I move a lot. If you had to limit yourself to 5 (yes only five) guns, what would they be? Also do you currently own these five? For me:
AR-15 (have a "good enough" DPMS, want a LWRC!)
.308 bolt action (have a nice Howa Ranchland, want to upgrade to a Blaser straight pull some day - more likely a nice Ruger!)
12 GA over/under (Beretta Silver Pigeon - I have one :-) )
.22 rifle (on the fence here Henry or 10/22)
9mm pistol (Glock or 92FS, but crave a Sphnix)

Yes, only 5.

no mini-14 ....blasphemy ! just kidding

Covered the bases ...combat and defense with the AR, longer range and larger game with the .308, a shotgun birds and home defense, .22 for small game and the pistol for portability and less conspicuous personal defense....

I might have chosen an 870 for the shotgun and a different pistol, but to each theor own ...go with what you know.

Both great choices, for me my Mini-30 and 590 are on the short list too! 5L

I could get by with three, actually.

Colt LE6920 AR-15 with TA31 A.C.O.G.

Model 70 XTR Featherweight .30-06 with Swarovski 6X42

SIG P226

Those three would cover just about everything.

I would probably also throw in my Anschutz 1710D, .22LR if space permitted. With the Ziess Duralyt 3-12X50 it's pure death on small game to 125 yards with RWS R50 ammo.

Okay, take out the mini 14 and the Delta Elite

That leaves the
M1A, hunting, zombie apocalypse, cool factor
Browning Citori, practical, Classy
10/22 target, you NEED a 10/22
Sig C3, my daily carry
Sig 238, cause if the 45 wont get it done, I can always fall back on the .380

But in reality I have only one of the above, the 870, my others are the Savage bolt action in 22mag cal., a 9mm Taurus 18+1, a Marlin 22, and a Rough Rider 6 shooter in 22mag. Walther 22 semi auto pistol suppressed.
Hard to argue much with these!

I have the 870 12 gauge with three barrels and the Colt 1911 (which can be loaded light or hot) and a good AR in 5.56x45. These cover a lot of applications.

I need to get a good .308 and the Savage would do. It fills in many gaps of the 870, 1911 and AR.

I think I'd go with a .22lr rifle over the 22-250 but all of these are hard choices. I have the Marlin Model 60, Henry .22lr lever action and Colt M4 Tactical .22lr. Of those three I'd choose the Colt, however the S&W M&P15-22 is a pound lighter and a great choice. You could share optics and other accessories if you have an AR and a .22lr AR.

You also could have a .22lr upper and a 5.56 upper for an AR and get two calibers for one rifle. You could do the same with a Glock 23 .40S&W and add .357 Sig and 9mm barrels and .22lr conversion. Five guns just aren't enough so you'd have to look at guns that accept multiple uppers and/or barrels.

If I had to pick only five guns, one of them would definitely be a 22LR bolt action rifle. In a SHTF I could switch out to subsonic 22 rounds, and with a little bit of duct tape and rolled carpet, nobody would hear anything but the click of the bolt. I could pretend I was Vietnamese and eat all the cats and dogs in the neighborhood.

Thanks. Saving for a proper Aimpoint and need some Skinner sights on the Henry, but it's a process right? The upper on the DPMS is CMMG and runs like a top, so I can't complain. The Howa is my large game/poor man's sniper system. Holds 5 rounds of 308! Debated a lot on the shotgun, but at the end of the day I can do more with the over/under. My 590 not much good for hunting as is. The Glock will do for now, but I rather like metal autos. The Sphinx is awesome, but too pricey, I'll prob give a CZ compact a try first. 5L

5? Pretty damn' hard to get 'er all done with that. Even moving a lot, its the longarms that are a limit, I can put all my pistols in a carton and no trouble transporting 'em. Longarms are another matter....

That said, if I had to pick five guns to be my "only ones", I'd select:
1. 1911 Colt Combat Commander
2. .38 Spl Colt Detective Special
3. Blackhawk .45 Colt/.45 ACP convertible
4. M1A
5. Marlin 1895 Guide Gun .45-70

Nope, no 12 gauge. Something had to go and I wanted 3x pistols for different types of self defense (combat/EDC/hunting backup) and that only leaves two spots. One for a combat rifle and the other for a pure hunting piece (sure I can hunt with an M1A - where its legal, and an M1A is not legal everywhere). I like the .45-70 a little too much to give it up for a 12 gauge.

Why not a .22? Ammo scarcity for one thing, but the other is that if a .22 kicks out a centerfire, to hell with the rimfire. Main reason I kept 'em was as understudy guns, but if I can only afford an actor or his understudy on the payroll, guess which I'll keep. If I bend it a little, maybe a .22 conversion kit for the 1911, but I can't kick out a centerfire for a rimfire.

If the OP had picked six instead of five, I'd toss in an Ithaca 37 12 ga next. And if it was seven, there would be a Colt Peacemaker 4-3/4" .45 Colt in there too, just for ****s and giggles.

Best,
Grumpy

HK91, 7.62x51, Luepold Mk III, 4-16x40 scope, Extreme reliability, hard hitting.
Remington R1 Enhanced, .45APC, sometimes you need stopping power
Ruger 10/22, 22LR stainless, scoped, small game hunting
FNH FNS-9, 9mm, like it way better than a Glock
Colt LE6920 Socom II, EOTech 522, Vortex x3 magnifier

I live in open country, a shotgun would be a luxury gun...

You have a perfectly adequate arsenal. Anyone can pick at any one piece with a preference but you have what you need. It's not a gun show.

1. A well broken in 1911 Commander
2. Ruger GSR in .308
3. .22 rifle of some sort, probably a 10/22
4. Ruger MK II .22
5. Either a Mini-14 or an 870 shotgun depending on where I am or moving to.

Lots of ammo and mags are perhaps as important as any one particular weapon. I could survive with three (#1,2,and 3) but I would rather have ten.

The Guns and the reasons:
AR - Common parts and reliable lightweight plastic mags.
Rem 887 Tactical 12ga - Everything proof, dead reliable.
Ruger 10/22 - nuff said.
Ruger American .308 - very light weight, very accurate, more than enough stopping power for anything I need to eat or put down. Remington 783 would probably be just as good from what I have read.
XDm 9mm - just a great handgun, very accurate and reliable. With advances in ammo tech the 9mm is now a very viable alternative and allows you to have a lot of rounds in the mag - Glock 9mm would also be just as good.

As a side note, I would stash my Mini 14 somewhere I could get to it if I ever needed it and would absolutely choose it first if practicality was not so important. BTW this seems almost more like a SHTF list or the new colloquialism for it "Zombie Plan" load out. Either way fun to think about:-)

Talking

Well, I'm not sure I would need 5.
My 4 would be:
Browning HP
FN/FAL 7.62 Nato, select fire
Rem Mod 11 20 ga
Any one of my several 22 rifles
Don't see any need for any other firearm.
Now IF I am going to have unlimited access to a motor vehicle with unlimited gas then maby I'd take something else, otherwise - No!
