well....my Uncle said he won it somewhere ......but never put any bullets in it 'cause it won't open

ok...i'll bring my truck tomorrow night & take it to the shop.....

after I triple check whether or not it's loaded, i'll yank the buttstock and see what the latch is hanging on, or what's broken inside ( my bet )

When I pick one up or one is handed to me I first check cleared. Then I look at the screws! Tells me all I need to know. And if you ever worked on a Smith and Wesson, you know about the screw thing. I actually just passed on a Colt Cobra Gen 2 with gen 1 screw pattern because it had buggered screw head.

I went to school for this, became certified as a gunsmith and owned my own shop for several years.

The Savage 24 last night had the bent (break action) guide pin in UPSIDE DOWN....and....a spring on it that would hold up the ass of a '52 Buick and about 2 full coils too long.....no effing idea where that spring came from, but it had the latch puller jammed fully forward with nowhere to physically go.
It's back to 100% now....and that .33 cent (correct) replacement spring is gonna cost him dearly.......

I realized long ago that many people turn it into a game.....they take great joy if they can financially cheat people that work for them.

My shop had a large price breakdown list on the waiting room wall.....yet almost everyone thought i'd "give them a break" for whatever reason.

Those were the ones I added an extra $10 "aggravation fee" to their bill.

on the laugh side...I once had a guy bring in a Ted Williams pump shotgun that he'd leaned against a tree & accidentally rammed w/his tractor.....barrel had a 45* bend in it.
THEN.....he almost loses his cookies because I couldn't find a Sears barrel for it & had to replace it w/a Winchester barrel......(with his ok btw)
I had to explain to him that the Winnie barrel probably doubled the old guns value......
