My pup could use a prayer....

Hi everyone,
been a meatgrinder of a weekend here.

Early Saturday morning my lab-mix puppy came down sick. Been that way through the weekend, just getting worse each day. Nasty case of the runs and as of 5 am this morning he can't keep anything down. Fooled me, because even this morning he was chipper and in good spirits - lots of energy, wanted to walk, chase tree-rats, etc. Thought maybe he just ate something in the yard he shouldn't and he'd be over it in the morning. But at the vet this morning, we found out he'd lost several pounds.

He's there now; vet does not think its torsion, he's not in any pain, but it could be either a nasty bacterial infection, environmental poisoning, or maybe a blockage. Don't know yet. If he doesn't shape up tonight with the antibiotics he's on, then tomorrow its time for x-rays and maybe an operation.

Anyway, I know it doesn't seem like its important in this world with all that **** that goes on, but my pup could use a prayer. He's a good boy and I want him to have a full and happy life. I'd hate to see it cut short just over a year old. Place already feels empty without him giving me the sad-eyes because he wants to play one last game of fetch in the basement before bed-time....

Thanks in advance,
Grumpy

Its possible; there's been a lot of rain and the things are popping up here. I don't allow him outside unattended and keep the yard as free of mushrooms and other such trash as I can, but sometimes he gets into things anyway on walks around the neighborhood.

Thanks for the info,
Grumpy

Well guys, thanks for your prayers, because they work!
The "big guy" spent all yesterday and most of today at the vet, and after everything she's convinced he just got into something non-lethal (i.e. no "death caps", etc) since after 2 days of hard-corps antibiotics and antinausea meds, he's bouncing back. Just got him back from the vets when she was convinced he'll be okay and he's resting in his crate now. I'll get him out on another walk when we get closer to dusk, kind of warm outside now for a puppy that is recuperating. He really wanted to get out of there, ran straight for his spot in the back-seat of the car and sat quietly as soon as the door was opened!

If he has a relapse, our vet is one phone-call away and I'm already set to do what's necessary to give him the best care that's possible.

Thanks again for your thoughts and prayers - its been a really dark weekend, was afraid of the worst for him, but fingers crossed, I think its all going to be okay.

Best,
Grumpy

Grumpy, glad to hear your pup is doing better and hope he fully recovers. I swear you would think one of my hounds is part bovine the way he sometimes grazes in the back yard and yes, he occasionally get’s sick.

look them up online & check his area for Psylosybin and Belladonna mushrooms.
a small amount won't kill a large breed dog, but they'll puke for a long time & trip their balls off just like a human.
my black lab ingested some once.....vet said give him peroxide to make him vomit EVERYTHING up....then keep him from hurting himself until he came down....took almost 2 full days......my dog basically took an acid trip, and damned if he didn't bee-line for that part of the yard every time he went outside after that (for YEARS i'm saying) looking for more..........
I didn't even realize we had Psyllos in the yard until I saw the shreds in his puke.....
