5:05 am Utah Earthquake

Wow, I was just sitting here about to respond on the political forum when I had the weirdest feeling; it felt like my recliner was on a plate of ball bearings, and the entire thing was undulating in a horizontal fashion, making me feel sort of dizzy.

I looked over at the blinds and the pull string and closing rod were swinging mildly, then I realized what was happening... earthquake. Don't know where it was, but I know for sure what it was, and it felt like it hit hard somewhere!

This went on for the better part of a minute about 8 minutes ago. Crazy.

Ok, it was at 5:03 36 miles from Tonopah NV, 6.3 they're saying right now. Man they felt that in Vegas!

I was on my deck telecommuting when the Mineral quake in VA hit. That was the one that damaged the Washington Monument and Nation Cathedral and rung bells as far as Philly. My property was about 25 miles away from the epicenter. Being on a deck certainly accentuates things!

First thought was the drier/washer was off-balance, but things got worse. Wife came out and said "we're having and earthquake!" We and the dogs exited the house and stood outside but, of course, by the time we got outside, the excitement was over. Our dogs were energized only because we were. Contrary to much reporting, there was no apparent "upsetinous" of our dogs or horses prior to that, and our two horses didn't seem to be disturbed a bit later on.

We had some minor damage (nail pops, some mortar breaking off, some pictures down, and some glasses in cabinets that did a suicide-dive when the cupboard door was opened), but over all we fared okay.

Once I got back to my computer on the deck, I was flooded with "what the hell was that???!!!" from my compatriots in VA and MD.

It was the first real earthquake I had been through. Dogs were non-plussed, as were the horses.

Had just set up a new double wide mobile home in Holister ca.in 84 when the Morgan hill quake hit at 6.2 !!
Loosened up a few piers which We reset, the park as a whole was OK while going home up 101 saw landslides, houses knocked over everywhere around Gilroy an Morgan hilll, went into a couple mobile home parks an most homes were on the ground.

1985 I had moved up here to the grass valley ca. area.In 1989 while delivering some completed product to the bay area the Loma Prieta quake hit 6.9 I got caught up in the middle of that mess lucky I had gotten off the freeway bout 30 min. earlier.
Everything collapsed, the freeways,Bay bridge an buildings everywhere, took me 2 days to get home (3 hr. drive)I was find, the co.I delivered to was fine.
I didn't realize the extent of the damage an loss of live till hrs later, total SHTF..

Up here we seldom feel anything inc.today's nevada quake. Our area is mostly granite an other rock......

Was it an earthquake or just too much fun the night before? We had minor one in NY a while back. Knocked some stuff off some shelves. Scary.

Strangely enough, I just thought I heard the voice of Johnny Cash warming up in heaven.

Secret Deep Doomsday Bunking Blasting? ...

I'm an old Los Angeles boy and grew up experiencing many earthquakes. Most dinky. A few knocking me out of bed! Yikes! Now vegetating and getting old next to the Cascadia Fault waiting for the big one. ...

Shallow focus? Can anybody here on this excellent forum with real computer skills, (not me) do a deep search and find out if somebody like the Feds are blasting out an ultimate deep big doomsday bunker?

Here is where the ice gets very very thin. Do THEY know something we do not? Dunno.

Pretty used to them; I’m 53 miles from Parkfield, CA. earthquake capital of the world.
I felt all those that the guys talked about, but the biggest for me was 2003 San Simeon quake.

6.6 just 20 miles away. I was shoeing horses on the coast in Los Osos. Felt like I was on a boat.
Usually when you are outside you barley notice them.
Couple women killed in Paso Robles, when an unreinforced masonry building from 1892 collapsed.

I was at work south of Altoona PA sitting in an office chair when that one struck. Had me and the parts guy baffled for a second, and then he said I think we just had an earthquake... he was right.

That's how I knew in a couple of seconds what was going on, felt the same only more intense and lasted longer.
