A "why" question about sights...

Why do ARs have an adjustable front sight post? Why not just use a fully adjustable rear sight.

I've done some fishing around on the net over the years but never found an answer.

Because your rear sights are set up for specific yardages. The front sight adjusts to that specific setting.

Flip up sights aren't fully adjustable if you are referring to those. Those are typically for back up!

So is the idea that every rifle is a little different and has to be set to a certain zero?

I still don't get it. Why not just an M1/M14 style rear sight?
