Range Day and Review New BCA 7.62X39 Upper

Received my BCA Upper couple of days ago.
7.62X39, 16" HB

Only found one flaw, a nick on the rear lug. Not a deal breaker, filed it smooth and covered the spot with a sharpie.
Added an AR stoner Linear brake, Vortex Cantilever one piece Base and
a Nikon P7 3-12X40. Also installed a Kaw Valley H3 Tungsten Buffer 5.4oz
Already had a H2 4.7 oz, but this heavier buffer actually ran my .556 upper better as well
Mag was a 10 round Duramag SS, performed flawless.

Started with Golden Tiger FMJ at 25yds.
Three of four rounds went into same hole, one round did not fire, light primer strike. I tried Golden Tiger, Tula, Brown Bear, Herters, several rounds of each. Only three GT and one Tula went bang
My reloads lit off no problem. Looks like I will have to order an enhanced firing pin or modify the one I have.
Overall very happy so far and at the moment I would rate this upper 9/10.
Next range report will tell when I can put 100 rounds or so down range of different ammo types.
Just for reference, the white dots are 1/2"

If you are going higher capacity mags.... ASC is the go to mag maker. I liked their 20 rounders for the x39mm AR. Their 30's functioned well but were a bit long and had the funky bend required to feed the x39mm round. The 20's have a more gentle curve and seem a perfect size. The ASC mags have the correct feed lips and follower for the cartridge. I did a thread on them awhile back but lost it when Photobucket flushed all their pics.

The max load for H4198 is in the 25.5 to 25.7 area for the Nosler and Hornady poly tips. I found my best accuracy with these bullets was at 25.0 grains. One hole at 100 yards. I just load everything at a standard 25.5 now to simplify things. You might be pleased with a little experimentation.

Keep us filled in on the range progress.

edit...just noticed your neutered pistol grip......disregard the high cap mag info. Bepe
Thanks for the input
Will try bumping up my load with the Noslers.
Already have legally owned standard cap mags, just didn't use them for the test run. Easier to use 10 rounders off the bench.

Range Day Two

Second range trip:
Modded the Firing pin from .022 to .036
Now it fires the Golden Tiger 100% but the other Russian ammo 0%.
So I will mod the Pin for .042 protrusion.
However, accuracy with the Golden Tiger is Awesome

Last group of the day:

Worst Group of the day
Didn't realize my bipod was really loose:

How did the heavy buffer perform? Ejection distance?

I noticed on the other brands of ammo the primers were seated deeper in the cases. However I also think that my light hammer spring is part of the issue.
I just swapped back to a factory hammer spring which is noticeably stronger.
I'm going to try just the stronger spring before I mod the firing pin more.
The heavier Buffer works great, spent casing are going about 6', also it works great for my .556 upper as well, both are notably softer shooting.
Hope to hit the range again Sunday morning.

Swapped in the factory hammer and trigger springs.
All fired except the Herters.
Swapped in an enhanced firing pin, and all ammo lit off 100%
The enhanced pin has about .040 protrusion.
All is right with the world

Hylander, I've been on the fence with buying a 7.62x39 BCA upper for some time now. All my AR15's are 5.56 and they shoot well. I have a good supply a x39 ammo and BCA has some good prices now. Can you tell me where I can get an enhanced firing pin for this upper? Just in case I have any problems.

RightToBear has em for $9 and in stock last I looked.
I’ve also gotten them from Black Rifle Arms too.
And I think RedXarms has them, as well as Palmetto State Armory.
