Charles Daley .410 Complete Upper

Could have bought a .410 but I have to get a complete upper. Just got it today it was like finding a dam unicorn, everybody sold out. Comes with it's own buffer and 5 round magazine. The upper build quality was good but I fear the magazine is garbage. I cycled the action a few times to make sure we had function . Then I inserted the mag and grabbed the charging handle and holy crap, the friction from the mag told me the last round will likely not feed or eject, or both. Very disappointed right now, did I say I could have bought a .410 shotgun. Arghh. So I have emailed Charles Daley and let them know the mag is likely junk and I did not want a project gun. So I asked for a replacement before Xmas and by the way nobody has the upper or any mags in 5,10, or 15 rounds, not even the CD website. So stay tuned and I'll keep you informed if this upper turns out or not. Dammit!

Must be a unicorn as I didn’t know an AR410 existed. I knew that there was some semi-auto 410s on the bull pup platform. Sounds cool though. Who makes the magazine?

Good question.
I had the magazine apart looking for a mfg. mark and none existed just .410 on it. It's a great concept and the machined parts of the complete upper are nice, but without a good magazine, it's garbage. This will be interesting but like I told Charles Daley in the email, I do not want a brand new firearm be a project. so either you satisfy the customer or you get it back.

Hey Buddy!
I know I was all excited when I saw the optics planet listing with a bright green add to cart button! Then I read the fine print next to the cart button: extended backorder arrival who knows. LOL. So I was talking to one of their CS people yesterday and they do not expect additional magazines for 60-90 days. But he said I can send them the mag because they can "fix it". So I took it upon myself yesterday to do what I said I wasn't going to do and turn it into a project. So I cleared the road for the bolt in the mag, deburred it. I guess I'll test fire before Xmas and the wife said if the dam thing doesn't work go buy a dam shotgun! I quickly wrote that down. I'll run into town and get some shells today and update by the weekend. Thank you for looking though WF!

We have success! Using the ammo they recommend which was in stock locally, Remington and Federal 2.5" 100% reliable 3 mags 5 each. I painted the front flip up sight post orange and I use that like a bead and it's right in there. This is a smooth bore and the spread from the 19" barrel is substantial at 15 yards on paper it prints approximately a 12" circle. If anyone else has a .410 I would like to know if you think the pattern is huge or about what you would expect using hi brass federal 7.5 shot 2.5".
I expect they will catch up on making some more of these and I can recommend if you were thinking of a dual role. Assuming you're ok with no disassembly instructions yet, no additional mags yet, and some differences from the AR platform like a spring roll pin to capture the firing pin/ bolt assembly rather than a cotter pin. That means I have to pound it out, not to keen on pounding on the bolt assy. So I'll just flush it from time to time. Is it beating the crap out my lower, I don't think so but time will tell? It cycles briskly but I don't feel a hard stop like a solid height spring. It's a fun little tool for grouse I hope? It may lack the reach, I need to get some 5-6 shot and pattern it.

Friend has a Saiga AK in .410 3 inch. Took it to the range to try it out and found it to be a blast to shoot. Only ran Winchester slugs thru it at 50 meters.
All tho I really liked it the ammo (slugs) are to expensive to shoot as many as I would want if I owned one. The hulls can be reloaded but I have never reloaded shotgun shells and I do not want to start now. But if you reload for scatterguns you could have a lot of fun.

I have a .410 upper imported by IFC from Turkey I ordered in the spring of last year and it has worked well since I have had it.

The only problem with it is some so-called 2.5 inch .410 rounds are too long to fit in the magazine, but once I figured out what worked it has been reliable. Anything too long for it I just save for my other .410.
I don't think I would try to use it to hunt, but it has been fairly fun at the range and has fairly light recoil for some people adverse to such things (like females tend to be).

I don't know anything about the Charles Daley unit but I suspect like a lot of Charles Daly stuff it is also imported, likely from Turkey. Turkey seems to be pretty big into shotguns. I think the laws over there prohibit people from owning semi-auto rifles, but shotguns are ok.

You are correct Pukin, from Turkey. 2.5" federal and 2.5" Remington. How does the pattern compare to your other .410? I'm seeing about a 12" circle at 15 yards. So I'm thinking grouse to 25 yards max. That was out of a Nitro #9 shot Remington. I have some additional mags on order, 2 months?, really?

Chill the pattern seems about the same but they are both cylinder bore with no chokes. Chokes are made for the IFC upper but since I am not planning on using it to hunt for anything I doubt I will invest in those.
I mainly bought it to assemble something other than just another 5.56 AR.

I ran some high brass #4 federals in it yesterday and I'll hunt grouse with that to 25 yds which is all I need. I'm gonna order a 5 box of slugs from Remmy and Federal and see how they fly. I'll post results. Thanks for getting back to me.
Almost forgot, did your IFC have disassembly instructions in the manual?

Not that I remember but it is just like any other AR upper. Nothing to disassemble other than pulling the BCG and charging handle out.
