I know you specified a Blue Steel scope mount, but I thought that I would at least mention that I have a stainless (aluminum?) finish B-Square mount in very good condition that I might consider parting with if you, or others, are interested. It has seen very light range use on my pre-ban mini 14. I can email photos.

Welcome rajaz to the mini forum. I'm wondering how many bases are really steel? I ordered a Stainless steel base from taurus for my pistol. It was aluminium! Maby they are only refering to the finish? I took my stainless scope rings, on my mini, and degreesed them, then painted them gloss black to match the scope. Looks good. AC you could spray paint it black to match your scope? An annadized finish would be better if you could find one, but I'm not afraid of paint. Its easy to touch up.

cajungeo et al,

I confess that my experience with Mini 14 bases (and I am referring to those that are designed to fit the non-ranch versions) is limited. I suspect that you may be onto something more general though. I am holding my B-Square base with rings in my hand and it certainly does not look or 'feel' like steel. It weighs a little more than 4.5 ounces, is very rigid but is non-magnetic. It is sort of a satin finish although, like your piece, was referred to as "stainless" by the firm that I bought it from. When I originally purchased it I just assumed it was an aluminum alloy. I wonder if the slightly less expensive version offered by the same manufacturer, which was described as "blued", was made of the same material, as opposed to steel, but finished to look "blued" thus implying steel. So, in this case, as well as yours, the description referred to finish, not to material. In any case, the B-Square mount worked rather well on those occasions that I used it. I don't know if it would have been as pleasant to use if it actually had been made of steel with its additional weight. Oh, and thank you for the warm welcome!

I hope you find a mount you are happy with.I 1st tried a sidemount type and it wouldn't hold zero.2nd was Willams no gunsmith, replaces rear peep sight, nice mount but crappy design, had a screw takeup that would strip.3rd mount and I hit pay dirt S&K"simalar to Willams design, but far stronger and simpler, its rock solid"I have 2000 rounds thru it and its held zero"If you want a cheap mount try www.cdnninvestments.com,just remeber you were warned about the side mounts, you might look under optics, you can get scope with side mount attached for same price.Good luck on your quest.Aldo
