Livin' in the sticks I would really like to get a Wireless Driveway Monitor. So I am doing some research and low and behold, there's a multitude of them...I thought solar power would be great due to the cost of batteries but what's most important is a quality product.

Here's one I am considering...

1000' Solar Powered Wireless Driveway Monitor With Magnetometer Sensor
This improved solar powered Wireless Driveway Monitor detects when a vehicle enters or leaves your driveway. It uses a solar powered patented magnetometer sensor system. Movement of any large metallic (iron or steel) object close to the driveway sensor will transmit a signal to the receiver, causing the receiver to chime and flash. People, animals and shadows will not trigger the driveway sensor. The sensor may be placed up to 1000 feet (line of sight) away from the receiver in your home.

Features:
  • • Alerts you when a vehicle is coming up your driveway
    • Indoor AC-powered receiver chimes and flashes when a vehicle approaches
    • Sensor is solar powered
    • Receiver plugs into a standard electrical outlet (indoor use only)
    • Operates with up to 1000 feet (line of sight) between sensor and receiver
    • Easy installation - mount the sensor next to your driveway on the included stake and plug the receiver into any electrical wall outlet inside your home
    • No difficult underground wiring
    • Additional sensor(s) will produce a different chime from the receiver when triggered
    • When a vehicle activates receiver, there is a 10 to 15 second delay for the unit to reset before the next vehicle will be detected
    • Will not be triggered by animals, people or shadows
    • Can be set to low, medium or high sensitivity level (factory default is high).
    • Wireless frequency is 433 MHz
    • Maximum optimal range for vehicle detection is 12 feet. Additional monitors may be required for driveways exceeding range
    • Small, rugged, waterproof sensor provides years of reliable service
    • Multiple sensors and receivers can be used together as a system (up to 16 sets).
    • Perfect for multiple driveways or large homes.
    • One (1) year warranty from the date of original purchase

Does anyone have one or know where I can find honest help with this???

I have one in my driveway, different brand. Mine came from Radio Shack I think, battery powered, and it DOES detect people and animals coming up the driveway. Take it from me, you WANT to know when someone is walking up your driveway at night.

I added a loud ringer to mine. It came with a little buzzer you couldn't hear in the next room. Some guy walked up our driveway one night and we barely heard the buzzer so I replaced it. Glad I did.

How far away are you wanting the sensor from the house ?

I have one of the ones linked below.. under $20, takes cpl of c and a 9 volt and I replace batteries twice a yr maybe in mine. My sensor is 100ft from the house. I camo painted it and put it on a tree and no one ever notices it.
Had mine for over 2 yrs and still working good.
Also if you are worried about batteries a old service station bell requires nothing but trapped air to operate it. Just bury some small tubing and it will be there for years.

I have about 90+ yard reach...is the unit metal sensing or infrared? In other words, will critters set it off? I'm in rural WI and there's plenty of animals roaming about...
