I would definitely load up on soft points, see where they go and use those for deer. A 30 caliber soft point is a very nice deer bullet.
It's also a NASTY personal defense round.

from a ballistics standpoint a mini 30 is pretty much a semi auto 30.30
if it'll mess up a deer - it'll really mess up a man...

I don't like x39 FMJ for defense -they do a clean through and through - I'd rather have 5.56 FMJ for that... due to the yaw and frag tendencies at under 200 yards. (and to my way of thinking... if a guy is more than 200 yards away... it ain't defense. YMMV depending on your location and community I suppose)

but as soon as you add a soft or hollow point to x39? it changes the game considerably. it really turns the round into the "thumper" that all the anti 223 guys claim it is.

I don't think there's anyone out there making a sight-less pin-on brake for the newer Mini-30s...

John Masen makes one for the -30, but they specifically state that it will not fit the new "winged" front sights.
yeah, but the .223 NC star one for the new minis with winged front sight will....
this one:http://www.ncstar.com/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=300

it's wide open. I have one on my 30 - and it does help a bit with muzzle flip, not as much as one that is tight for.30 cal.

you will want to drill and tap a small hole on the underside of the barrel to accept a set screw through the brake for best results (at least thats what I did.)

but it does fit, work, and have some sort of positive effect besides just looking bad ass.
for the record that Is a Duracoated SS 581 mini thirty in the pic.
Gundoc trigger job, socom accustrut, NC star brake, 1911 rear buffer, choate top cover, and since this photo a tactical mag release.
it'll do a golf ball at 100 off a bench with Silver bear SP if I do my part...or a tennis ball if I don't
