After Re-visiting the gallery and seeing djskit's mini, A light went off in my dense skull, after reading an article in Predator Xtreme, entitled "Seduced by Hunting's Dark Side". They tested the varmint calls, and lights at night which greatly yielded more varmints: coyote, bobcat, ****, fox, neutras. After re-checking out djskits, mini even though its primary function is home defense, it also has "Varmint Hunter" all over it!

My question is for any one with experience, or an opinion of a good varmint light. Concerns, would be Beam range, battery life, cost. and weight. Only need to light up the eyes. Also wondering if anyone has any experience with 3rd gen. nite scopes? Any opinion would be appreciated. As usual links are special.

Also related would be experience with the Ultimak rail, as far as hanging stuff off it, mounts, rings etc. It looks sooooo Cooool!!!

cajungeo, I use a light that is made by night lite ,battery pack on your side light on your hat. That is good for maybe 75 yards but carry a rechargeable spotlight for those longer shots. This setup works good for me as the lights that mount on your gun are just too bulky. If you are wondering if this steup really works ask the 6 beavers I shot the past 2 weeks.OOPS they won't talk.:D

I forgot one thing . Go outside with you gun and have some one hold a light shining on what could be a target. It just amazes me how much light a scope will pick up . Your Leupold will do a whole lot better than myTRASHCO, but it still does pretty good.;)

Thanks va hunter. This weekend I dug up a special guns & ammo mag. The whole mag. was about Tatical lights, and night tactics. The big down side with the gun mounted lights are they are bright enough, but the expensive batts only last 20 min to 60 min.

Since I don't have a hardcore hunten buddy to hold the light, I would need a rifle mounted light (as I don't have, but 2 hands), but like your idea of the belt mounted batt pack. This would reduce the weight on the rifle, and increase the batt storage size for longer life. I would use a coiled extension (like a phone chord) between the light, and batt pack. I guess the next step is to find a light already in that configuration, as most of the tac lights/batt pac's are a little on the small side.

Glad to hear my scope would still work at night, I was wondering about that.

Course I could do it cajun style, and duct tape my mag light on the bottom of my mini, but that wouldn't look as cool.

If any varmint hunters, are interested. There is an interesting discussion about different lens colors, and which is best to pick up the eyes, and not spook the varmint. White, blue, amber or Red. Check out: http://www.varminthunters.com/tech/nighthu...t/nitehunt3.htm

BTW. Check with your states laws on "varmint" hunting with a light at night. It is legal in some states, not in others. Personally I always study the law before hunten season, so there is no doubt.
