how does varget compare with these powders? im loading 50 grn behind 150 fmj =2700 fps and about 4" groups. would one of these other powders be more appropriate? tia
I'm not familiar with Varget but 4895 is a GOOD powder for the Garand load. Another good powder is W748.
With 4" groups, I would be looking at different powders and loads too.
Accurate lists a load of 52.5 gr. of 4064 will push a 150gr. bullet @ 3010 ft/sec. They recommend starting by reducing the load by 10% and working up.:sniper:
My Garand is chambered in .308 so I use a lot of the 4895 and love it. I am thinking about trying some BLC2. the 4895 has worked well for me for a lot of years. I was using 4064 but when I went to a .308 I had a serious problem with case compacity and 4895 fit the need.
