First, how do I remove the front sight from my Ruger 10/22 and replace it with another one (which is a bit higher, to match the apperture sight I bought).

Second, is there a way to modify the gallery settings so that pictures are limited by size rather than max dimention.
A rifle is long and narrow and could fit into 800x150 pictire that would be still smaller that 640x480 allowed.

Fastang is correct. The sight is dovetailed in. I would take the barrel out of receiver, and lay flat on a hard surface, like the garage floor, with a cloth down so as not to scratch barrel. Place the sight BASE only, on a small drill bit to back it up. Use a brass punch on the dove tail of the blade, and drive it out.

Also here is a front sight height calculator if you need one: http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/GunTech/sight.aspx

Is there a problem with the gallery I'm not aware of? I believe the 640 x 480 is std in all our forums at Perfect union. Not all pics are long guns. You can trim your pics to be longer in appearance than the height. The 800 pixel width would push the verbage frame off screen, we would have to use the lower slide bar to read verbage, and to see the whole picture. The 640 allows the entire pic to be viewed. Any way Bill our administrator would have to change the size. Personally I would not be in favor of it.

BTW V. I'm moving this to the 10/22 forum.

Hey SHOgun. Thanks for the tip. It may save someone from beating the tar out of their rifle. This would also be a way to index the sight to a center position locked in.

Cajun ! that is why i brought this one to the top . It may seem fairly elementary , but once upon a time(30ish years ago iirc ) in a far away place, a young one (yup you guessed !) got carried away with a ball peen (2 #' er iirc) and ruined a perfect (brand new never fired) 10/22 . Those were the days ....
The new barrel and sight installed with my 'smithing tools ,12" long allen w/ short handle , an 8 oz tap hammer and brass drift . The sight insert had nearly microscopic index graduations with a centerline index on the barrel . Very high tech stuff for a 10 year old in the '70's !
