I got the Pro-Mag 10-rounder today and although I have not actually used it in a live fire test I can report the following positive report.

I loaded it with 10-rounds with minimal effort on the 10th round. I inserted it into my gun with the bolt closed. Took just a little push but went in with a nice "click" and did not have to turn it a bunch of different ways. When I pulled back the bolt it got a "little" stuck at first but I pulled the bolt harder and it functioned fine. This will probably go away with a little usage.

I did some measurements, comparing the Ruger Factory mag (brand new), the Pro-Mag and a JUNK USA 20-rounder I got stuck with (5 to be exact from Gunbroker). Here are the results which I think tell the entire story.

Ruger Pro-Mag USA

Front strap top .725 .730 .790
Front strap back .925 .925 .950
Back strap catch .980 .985 .855**
Front catch hole .185 .170 .130
Top width (at
begin of lips) .800 .835 .850

** - their is no metal after the bump on the mag catch which makes it shorter. Not sure how it effects the catch.

I must say the Pro-Mag looks very nice, just like the factory. It is obvious looking at the measurements why the Pro-Mag fits and feeds and the USA doesn't. Since I'm not depending on the Mini-30 for my "war machine" (I have another for the high-cap purpose) I'll be totally happy using the 10-rounders in this gun. It should now be very useful on hogs.

I want to thank Fourfourmag.com for extending me the trial offer. As they say "the check is in the mail".

thanks,

I told them to go ahead & send me a magazine. It was just a couple of days ago & here it was waiting when I got home from work. I agree with most everything Lostcajunboy has said except for the fact that this magazine looks better than the Ruger five rounder that came with my Mini. I guess this is a ProMag & it is clear they are after Rugers magazine contract. I asked for a blue magazine because it'll show any flaws or defects better than a stainless will. The finish was as good as the Ruger & the overall construction looked much cleaner. It looks like an Engineer built this magazine as opposed to a tank mechanic. It is lighter without being flimsy. The follower looks exactly like the Ruger's & when I cycled rounds thru Mini I had no malfunctions. I haven't had a chance to try it at the range but I think we have a ten round winner here. As for me my check is in the mail. Thanks a lot Mark.

I bought some a while ago and like them.. the steel is thick and of good quality. You must push the bolt forward if loading a fully loaded mag but otherwise they are good. Hope you guys are gearing up to make some hi caps when the stupid "assault weapon" ban ends in 2004.

I finally ordered two mini 30 10rd. mags from fourfourmag.com. I had some problems with shipping/billing, so I called them and had the order corrected with ease.

So I received the 10rd. mags a few days later- the only problem is that I can fit a maximum of 7 rounds into each mag. With 7rds, I have to physically pry the front of the bullet up to get it to feed properly, and that doesn't work every time.

With 6rds, everything seems to work fine.

Is this what I should expect from an aftermarket "10" round mag?

Long time lerker/first time poster,

I have ordered a couple of times from FourFourMag and I must say the ProMag 10 rd mags are good quality and they work. I have 6 total and loaded them up with 10 rds several times and they all work great.

ProMag likes to put "extra" grease on the spring, but its easily removed.

There was one problem with the billing process, but that was quickly corrected (great customer service).

I use ProMag's all the time. FourFour Mag has a excellant
price on them. I have been to the place they make them down
in the L.A. area. It's really a tool and die maker. I went
down before TG a yr ago, and talked to the mgr there. He
showed me the different wires they use and all all are top
quailty. They use surgical wire in the big mags like for LEO
and the 50 cal. In our's they use top grade piano wire. They
also will replace ANY part that breaks for free.

They were real nice people and I could tell they were proud
of their products. I paid 26.95 a pc for the 10rnd mini-14
mags. So if you want a mag that will feed, at least all 8 of
mine do, all the time with no hassle, you should consider
ProMag and FourFour Mag's offer...

Csapor, regarding the magazines that would only hold 7, I checked and it looks like we mistakenly sent you Mini 14 magazines instead of the Mini 30 magazines that you ordered. I appologize for the error. I will be sending you the proper Mini 30 mags and reimbursing you for the return shipping cost for the Mini 14 mags..

Has anyone else had a problem with a 181 series Mini and getting the Pro Mag to latch in place? The latch tab on the back of the Pro Mag extends slightly farther down than a factory mag and it will not latch in place in my Mini with the bolt open or closed. The Pro Mag appears to be well made and will probably fit with some file work.

Hey Ron, you may want to read this thread as not all mag latches are created equal. Some mags will fit yours perfect, but not in mine, and visa versa. Instead of filing down each mag, you may want to get a newer latch from gunparts.com, but then if you have any hi caps, they may not fit as well. What to do?

Would like to offer a special price for Perfect Union members, mix and match any 10 ProMag Mini 14 or Mini 30 magazines for $140 including UPS shipping.
Is that 10 mags @ $140. Don't believe we can beat that price.

BTW, I received the 4 I ordered, they seem to be the same ruger quality. Can't wait to take em to the range!
