At the range yesterday and was shooting wolf 223 and Q3131 winchester (the military 5.56 caliber stuff) The trigger assembly would either unlatch itself, or unlatch itself and fall out in my lap every couple of shots. I ordered a recoil buffer and the rubber recoil pad for the butt assuming that reducing the recoil would help keep the unlatching from happening. Also I tried to gently bend the trigger guard a little to increase the pretension when you unlatch it (seemed to be a little light to unlatch, but the latch looks like it lines up where it ought to before you latch it down)

Does anyone have ideas of what to do? I am also going to call Ruger to see what they suggest. Assume they'll recommend changing ammo because both flavors I am using seem to be hotter than the UMC or winchester white box I have been using. Would like to use the wolf and q3131 though because I have about 80 rounds of it.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

That's bad. There is no good reason I can think of for that to be acceptable. The rifle should safely eat anything you feed it. Did you recently install the action into a new stock by chance? Just thinking that if it's too 'thick' top to bottom it might prevent a full latch engagement. How about pulling the action out and attaching the trigger group to see if anything looks out of place? I'd check that out, then look over the latch points closely to make sure they haven't become worn or misshapen from being closed wrong or not fully engaged. Your idea to bend the trigger guard is good, but shouldn't be necessary unless it's been bent. Look it over, then give Ruger a call, maybe they've seen this one before. Good luck.

Good idea on assembling the trigger assy to the reciever without the stock on. I will try that. As far as the stock goes, Its the factory wood one that came with it, and I have only shot like 120 rounds through it. So I would not think wear on the assembly would be a factor yet. Thanks for the the response and Ill let you know what happens!

Yeah, I'm with fastang, I can see nothing but trouble in a trigger group that falls out every other shot!!!
They latch up in there pretty tight,so unless YOU are doing somthing wrong,I'd get it looked at......PRONTO!!

Called ruger and they wanted me to send the whole rifle in. They said it was a simple adjusment and did not seem real surprised to hear my problem. Assume this may be a fairly common problem. The solution seemed obvious to me, so, I decided to bend the trigger guard just slightly more before I went to the trouble of boxing the thing up and screwing with the shipping and everything. using some padding to keep it from scratching I bent it in a vice. Latches together great now. Much tighter. Will have to test it out but I think it will take a heck of a lot more recoil to jar it loose now...

Sounds like you are on the right track!
For all of my mini's,I have to use a medium sized phillips screwdriver to pry the trigger gaurd loose! They are in there very tight.

My mini 30 did that the first time I took it out. It seemed tight ,but the force from firing would drop it out.I just bent the trigger guard tighter and have never had it happen since. Hope you get it working soon.

BULL-this is a COMMON problem with Mini's-I posted this exact same info here awhile back, and I was bashed on to no end!! But truth be told, I worked for a LE Agency (Please, no more "JBT" comments) and we used Mini's exclusively-and we had this problem all of the time, especially on a course which had rapid-fire stages. We noticed it never occurred on folding-stocked models, but happened only to full-stocked ones. I remember one guy was shooting and his trigger group fell out, and the whole rifle disintigrated before our very eyes!!! He tried to grab it to stop it, but got burned by the op/rod and barrel!! I believe it may be heat-related?? I am not sure. I went to a synthetic stocked Ruger GB when they first came out (1998??) and I never had the problem either. So I don't know what to tell you.

I had this happen once with a friend's mini. I "adjusted" the trigger guard, got 'er up tight and never had another problem. Of course I told him about it, honest! He went to some mini matches and never had another fault. My mini is solid so far, but I figure it is an easy fix. All it takes is a 6 lb hammer and the largest cold chisel you have. (just kidding) :D
