I could have paid 1/2 as much for an ATI or I could have paid twice as much for a Kimber than I did for the Remington R1S but it does everything I expected and more, I could not be happier at any price.

I am impressed with the Rems. simple beauty, nothing gaudy just pure crisp lines. There is nothing I would do to it to change its appearance. I like the walnut grips with the very nice checkering. The fit and finish of the piece is immaculate. The sights are non-adjustable but who needs adjustable sights when it is dead on accurate which it absolutely is. it has a great trigger. Although present day Remington is not the same Remington that it was when it became one of the first companies to produce the 1911 under government contract back in the teens, it does have that tradition to be proud of. I will never need to make concessions in my mind as to where it came from.

It is by far the best of my 5 handguns. I did a lot of research before I bought. I grew tired of looking. My mind is at ease now, I have what I want, I can move on to my next pursuit.

outstanding example of Remington. what cost if ya' don't mind?
Marlin, here in Boise, Sportsman's Warehouse has the stainless R1S like pictured above for just under $600. A couple months ago they had them on sale for $525. During the same sale SW had the R1 (black oxide finish) normally $525 for $475.

SW has the R1 Commander (black oxide finish) for $550 ($522 after military discount). All of them qualified for Remington's $75 mail in rebate (good through the end of the year).

Glutton that I am, I got all three! So far two of the $75 checks came, waiting on the third.

Remington is pretty aggressive pricing these basic 1911s, maybe they'll have another sale or rebate. If they do you can get a Remington for almost the price of an Armscor 1911. I'm not knocking the Philippine guns but the Remingtons are excellent. I agree with everything DDDWho said about the R1S.

Of course the R1 Enhanced and R1 Carry cost more but like DDDWho, I like the classic 1911 and don't need a beavertail grip safety, etc.

About the ONLY thing I change is to add a beavertail grip safety (Pachmayr made the best ones, now discontinued), long trigger and Pachmayr rubber grips. I actually like the looks and feel of the flat mainspring housing but shoot better with an arched one, and I do not have small hands.

Like potato chips, you can't just try one and quit.
