Excerpt from Friday's NY Post (page 22). NYC Police Commissioner Ray Kelly is reconsidering his predecessor's proposal to outfit six to eight RMPs in each of the city's 76 precincts with "assault rifles and submachine guns."

"The cops were slated to receive deadly
accurate Ruger Mini-14 assault rifles,
which fire rounds that travel up to a mile."

Deady accurate. Compared to what?

I think it's great NYPD is considering Mini's for their troops. Gives an air of respectability to the old girl. I agree NYPD may have to tinker with the accuracy, but most of their incidents are less than 50 yds, and last less than 10 seconds, which is perfect for the Mini. Fast and simple--------in those categories you can't beat the Mini 14.

I've noticed in a lot of movies (Take that with a grain of salt, since Hollywood is not known for accuracy), the prison guards and bad guy body guards are often using Mini-14s. Check "the Last Warrior" and "3000 Miles from Graceland" - The casino guards had Mini-14s.

Also, I saw a news story recently about a local correctional institute, where the guards were all carrying Mini-14 Ranch rifles.

New York? "RMP" used to stand for the "Royal Mounted Police"?

I suppose the Mini 14 is "deadly accurate" compared to a Glock 17 or similar, eh? :)
