I have a 1903a3 I'm working on and am doing everything I've read to clean the stock. This is my first try at this.
I've Easy offed it 3 times, baked in the 100 degree heat in my truck about 5 times and washed it with about a gallon of "purple power" (not in that order).
The flat side of the stock below the action (where the wood is really thin) is black black black. In fact - it worse than when I started!
Any other ideas?

OK - an update
While I was trying to figure out what else to do I've been applying even more purple power to this section and have been wiping off the last application with a towell.
Yes - I am making progress! Little by little.

A Swede stock that I was refinishing was dark on the bottom side also. I took it to work and put it in a hot water parts cleaner. The cleaner looks like a big dishwasher. After the third 10 min saoking it came out almost like new. A lot of the dents and scratches came out too.
