The PMP military surplus ammo (300 round battlepacks) is good, full-spec 193 aamunition. Does anyone know if the *commercial* PMP 55 grain JHP is to the same spec, bullet construction and velocity?

Anybody have some and a chronograph?

I've shot the S.A. surplus ball and like it also. Have'nt shot any S.A hollow point though. I have recently shot some of the Russian Silver Bear 62gr.H.P in the Zinc plated steel case. It functioned fine, just did'nt have the zip like Winchester white box or Mil Surp Ball ammo. How much are they getting $$ for the S.A PMP hollow point?

Don't know if this will help any but here's a link to the specs. Looks as though it's all pretty much the same. They're not showing the hollow point. My try to contact them directly.

I don't know why I typed JHP; I meant the 55 grain FMJ. I hoped that it is equal to the (by all accounts) great military 193 ball they have.

The specs link is for the 193 ball; do they have another link for the commercial ammo? That's the real question; do they match?

Well, I found the commercial ammo; same bullet it looks like, the velocities are
985+-12 m/s for 193 ball,
980 even for commercial.

I say it's the same stuff.

Larry,

I've put about 1k round of the PMP "gazelle" from AIM through my Bushmaster without problem. Functions perfectly. Haven't chrono'd it yet. I'm going to the range tomorrow and if it's not too muddy, maybe I'll take it along.

Sorry, Larry. I didn't get the opportunity to pull the chrony out this morning. Bit muddy and a fair crowd at the ODNR range. If someone else doesn't get to it first. I'll try again.

I just ordered another 500 rounds from Century; it comes to $3.38 after shipping. You have to buy something else to make the minimum $75 order, but it's a good opportunity to grab another $11.87 hardcase.

OK, Century is 72.00/500 (plus shipping), AIM is 72.95 (plus shipping & tax) or the PRO gunshow for 75.00 even. Decisions, decisions. :)

One thing nice about the non-reloadable stuff I've been shooting is I don't feel bad when I pitch the empties instead of throwing them in the bucket to bring home.

Which you buy depends on what else you need; I order from century so I can get stuff like their cool and oh-so-cheap bags and web gear. AIM has PMP? I didn't see that on the site.

I got a brass catcher from Fulton that works really well, but I would hate leaving Boxer primed brass around. If you are going to litter (;) be sure to use steel cased ammo. It disappears pretty fast!

Larry,

Third item down at http://www.aimsurplus.com/acatalog/_223.html

As for collection of the empties, the one thing I really, really like is that the Bushy throws them all into a spot on the ground about 2' in diameter. Sure wish my Garands and the M1A did that. (OK, call me lazy!)

Great day here in Central OH, so I went to the range with my 20" Bushy and a couple of boxes of the PMP .223 Remington FJBT 55 grain fodder (Lot 021). Here's the numbers on five strings (10 shot each at approx 10') from my Chrony Beta Master.

Strings 4 and 5 were shot in the best light of the morning.

Good info. We are about 60 fps off of the listed specs for the militay 193, about 40 off of their listed specs a 5m for this ammo.

It wouldn't be the first time rather optimistic speeds were published.

This looks like good velocities; but under 193 by a little. Still hotter than USA or Winchester .223 ammo.

Thanks Mike, I appreciate the information!
