gutpile, I'm moving this thread to the General discussion, as we don't have any carpenders in the mini forum.:p

A friend of mine hires out to contractors, to install screws into the sub flooring of new houses, as the nails work out and floor will creek, and squeek. The screws keep it quiet.

So what? Last weekend we put in 32 fence post, on the very first one, using an auger on the tractor, we hit our neighbors water line! Seems it went under our land. Fixed that, drilled 32 holes, carried 32 8 foot post into the holes, plus 17 80 lb bags of cement and filled the holes with cement and watered them.

THIS WEEKEND we will hammer up the wooded fence (it's a second corral for horses.) Fun fun fun. And in this Texas sun.

So, we all have our problems, right?

sounds like you are at least getting your holes drilled, here in the missouri ozarks the ground is so rocky it is a real chore to build fence, i built a loading chute a few weeks ago, was setting wooden posts, the ground was soft, weve had a fair amount of rain here lately, but still with the rocks it was impossible to get my holes more than 20 inches deep, my best hole was 24 inches, had to use concrete to anchor them. my old john deere model B just dont have enough down pressure on my auger to help it much. one of my nieghbors stopped by while i was digging a rock out with a pry bar and suggested that i fill the holes with water for a few days to soften the ground up, i asked him how much water it would take to make the rocks get soft....he didnt know.....

OK I will attempt to put you out of your misery. If your house has good old heart wood pine hang on to it. It sells for 7.00$ a running foot in Texas. They use it to make pergoleum floor tiles. **** Dawg
