Anybody have an idea on how to make a scope stay put on my mini 30 short of nailing the darn thing on? No matter how tight I put the scope and ruger rings on it they always come loose. Would a rubber coated scope help?

Had the exact same problem. 10 shots max the mini would buck the scope off. I used a large screwdriver not a coin. It made no difference Untill I installed Mike knifongs gas port bushing kit. It reduced recoil way, way down. Do a search for bushings or recoil. You will see many related posts. I also used locktite blue on the ring screws.

My scope mount is a B Sqare. I used some channel lock pliars to attach to the Mini and then ran the 2 set screws down to stabalize the mount. Then I ran the 2 set screws in on the stabalizer set screws to keep them from backing off. It's a pretty sturdy setup.

What does the Ruger mount look like? Can you post a photo? I have a picture of the B Square on some other thread on PerfectUnion somewhere.

Hey, hows it going ? Hunting season here in Alabama is just around the corner,I took a peek, big bucks everywhere will be a good season. Currently on the mini 30 and mini 14 I am using Bushnells Banner scope 1.5x4.5x32 cost about $60.00 good scope, as with any rifle recoil can damage your scope. That is why I like the ranch rifles. I use the mini 30 and mini 14 equally on the ranch here,so I have every day use of these fie firearms on all sorts of critters and varmits. After afew years I have had zero problems. Hey, cajungeo do you have a contact number for MIKE KNIFONGS gas port bushing kit, those shells do go flying out of the mini 14 huh? Also recomend locktite blue on the ring screws. Have you tried Buffer Tech buffer some good help with metal contact ,but not enough for the recoil. Singleside out.

I installed a muzzle brake, home made rubber recoil buffer, and a smaller gas port bushing. You wouldn't believe how it reduces recoil. A little more than a stock 10/22.

Thanks cajungeo, this is why I like this web site so much good information that you can use to improve your mini and make it do what you want it to do. That double muzzle brake tightened those groups up big time. Hopefully, buy the end of the year I will have made all the improvements that I have plannned and will be looking for more in the future. Going to change from the chote con stock to the hogue tonight for the hunt. :usa: Singleside out. :rapid: Its all about freedom
