What is a good scope to purchase for my mini14? I will be doing some deer hunts and would like to be able to target practice with it as well. My budget is limited to around $125-150. I do not need more than 100 yards. Any suggestions where I can read up on finding the right scope for me?

I put a Burris compact 4x scope on my mini. Being a Burris and a non-variable is bound to help its durability. Good range of eye relief and the compact size goes well on the mini. The Matte runs around $170-175 and I believe the black is a bit less expensive than that and could be had in your price range.

Welcome to the forum JV. I would recommend a scope with a very good warrentee. I bought a Leupold varix II 3-9x40mm, for $179 at Academy sports. That model has been replaced by the vx 1. Truth is I put it on 4X, and shoot from there about 90% of the time. It is warrenteed forever no mater who owns it. Burris is another good brand. They might cost a little more than you wanted to pay, but they will never let you down. Both brands have high end scopes like $700. but this is way more scope than you need. I'd stay away from the real cheep scopes like BSA, BEC etc. Tasco has gone out of business, and so their warrentee. I don't know about simmons, or bushnell. I have heard good and bad. I've heard good things about weaver. I have a cheep 3-9x32 sportsview, but haven't used it much. I was afraid to put it on my mini.

You can get some good deals at pawn shops sometimes. Here are some links to shop around, some have better pictures, and info, and others have better pictures. You can't beat going to a gun shop, or gun show, but shop around before you buy, it could save you a lot of bucks.

The mini is known as a scope wrecker, so many of us have greatly reduced the recoil by installing smaller "gas bushings" or "gas port bushings". You can use the search button in your upper right control panel for more info on gas bushings, and scopes. Hope this helps ya get pointed in the right direction.;)

Okay, I know this is as helpful as tits on a boarhog, but.......

Look at their 4x scopes. I REALLY love their military type 4x24 illuminated models. The kicker? Well, it's twice as much as you want to spend. However, you'll get three times the scope. It's a hell of a scope. Rugged, great optics, and cheap for what you get. Heck, they could get twice what they charge for it.

You get what you pay for in a scope. Buy it right once instead of buying cheap and replacing it 3 or 4 times. Also, this scope should last your lifetime. You can put it on any rifle you see fit, as needed.

If that doesn't float your boat how about this?

I've seen them go for about two bills at some places, such as Sportsmans Guide.
