I recently purchased a Mini-14 Ranch, and when I went to put the *standard* Ruger scope rings on my Mini, I found the back scope mount wasn't cut deep enough! Has anyone else heard of anything like this before? :ar15:

Sorry this won't help you. I had a pre ban mini back in the early eighties (still kicking myself for selling it) and I finally decided I needed another one. I bought a Ranch Rifle Stainless in early February. Mounted a Leupold Var-X II with no problems with the mounts. If you bought it at a gun store try talking to them or contacting Ruger, there's a thread on this forum about dealing with Ruger & hints for getting past the sometimes unhelpful service people.

I must ask.......DON'T think that I think you are an idiot!! Cause that is not the case!!! But did you try turning them around,or switching the front for the back,trying all the possibilities? I know that they only fit on ONE way (I think). That's one reason I avoid the "Ranch" at all costs....NO scope mounting options!!(well,VERY FEW anyway).

Yes, of course I tried them around, I don't bathe in ignorance, but yes, they are uniform, and thanks for asking, I mean, there are dumb people in this world.

arrowbullet, if its not cut deep enough, I'd contact the gunshop you bought it from, it will have to be sent to Ruger to be fixed. We had one member that had the ring slots cut crooked, Ruger fixed it for free. I believe the turn around time was 2 weeks.

Ruger rings are kindof strange, and can be finikey. And some people will only try it "the way the salesman said to",not cause they're stupid, they just don't know better and don't want to possibly screw it up worse!

You know,if it was me,I think I might put a Weaver rail on it instead! I think they make one that fits right over the ranch mounts. And you'd have a much better variety of ring choices!

Of course that kind of defeats the purpose of having built-in mounts!
