I sent my Mini-30 back to Ruger via Fed-Ex on the evening of 5/10/02. The reason I sent it back, was mis-aligned scope bases, which were pointing 3 scopes I tried, far to the right, making point of impact far to the left, leaving no more adjustment of the scope. Well, today I'm sitting here on the net, checking out scopes to buy, figuring that if I order one today, it will surely be here WAY before Ruger gets around to fixing my 30, and shipping it back. Knock, knock, "UPS!!!" I jump up and say: "Great! The Viagra I ordered has arrived!!" Nope. It was my Mini!!!
So now, I'm happy, pissed off, and confused. Happy that I got it back so soon. If I sober up, before dark, I'll buy a scope at Walmart, drive to the range, and see if they fixed it right. I'm pissed off because the flash hider/muzzle brake has been removed. It's in a bag with the roll pin, and the 2 sets of rings I sent with it. So the nice, tight smooth, JB Weld installation, I have to do over. Why in hell did they have to remove it?!?!? I'm also not happy about Ruger NOT refunding the $14.74 I spent to ship a brand new, but DEFECTIVE rifle, back to the factory. As far as I'm concerned, that adds another 15 bucks to the ridiculously high price I had to shell out for it to begin with. Not to mention the shipping fees on the 2 scopes I erroneously returned to Tapco and Sportsman's Guide. I intend to call Ruger on this matter, and will be an awfull pest, if the don't concur. It's not as if they have nearby warranty centers. OK, and now for the confusion part. Here's what the packing slip reads:
CUSTOM FLASH HIDER PARTS RETURNED
CUSTOM BUTT PAD PARTS RETURNED
2 SETS SCOPE RINGS PARTS RETURNED
SCOPE CUTS REPAIRED

REPAIR,SAFETY FUNCTION CHECK AND TEST FIRING HAVE BEEN COMPLETED. RELEASED FOR SHIPPING.

So what I'm confused about is this: How is it possible to "REPAIR SCOPE CUTS?" These are close tolerance machine cuts, which appear to be integral with the receiver forging. I was an aircraft machinist/mechanic and worked with aluminum and titanium. Does anybody have any idea how this was accomplished on my Mini-30???? Would they have to fill in the old cuts, and re-cut them, and then re-blue the area? I know for sure that they did not re-blue anything.
I think they also RAISED the trigger pull. I guess they didn't feel that the trigger job I did was safe! But now, it's excellent. So, no more beer today, a few cups of coffee, and off to the range. I'll post results later. Hopefully the Viagra will arrive tomorrow!!

Well Joe,
It ain't all bad....Ruger has had my Mini 14 for almost a month now, and who knows when I will get it back? I did however put down some $$$ on a new Mini that I will pick up in June. This whole repair situation has made me realize that having only 1 .223 is not fun......:(

Well I haven't been able to shoot my mini either for a couple of weeks. Like a dummy I took out my magazine latch to get a more accurate measurement of it, and couldn't get that darn spring back in there. I spent an hour on it 2 weeks ago, and have been looking at it trying to figure it out ever since. Today I had a revelation, with a little cussen, and some grunten, I got it back in. Now tomorrow I'm on vacation, and headen to the range to do some shooten.
That was fast joe, hope it works out for ya.
