Are they good enough for good accuracy, meaning they won't wiggle around while shooting? Will they retain zero if you take the scope off with the rings on and just remove the rings from the receiver?

I've got a Leupold Vari X II 3-9x40 and I love the scope and the rings are easy enough to mess with. I don't want to get another base if I don't have to because anything else just adds height and I don't want to add a cheek piece. I like to keep it very simple if possible. I know there are some other rings that mount similar to the Ruger, but I don't know if those are better than what Ruger supplies with the ranch model.

Your thoughts and comments welcome.

TIA.

The ruger rings are great. If you're worried about coming loose, a little Loctite on the base screws won't hurt. I know leopold makes ruger rings but they're like $50 or $60. Not worth it as the ruger factory rings are just fine. I think you'd be crazy to try to set up some type of different mount system on it, like those ones that will let you set up a weaver rail.
As to the return to zero - I'm sure you'd be pretty close, (one way to find out is to try it yourself) but I wouldn't bet a hunt on not verifying zero after you re-attach.

Give the ruger set up the benifit of the doubt and don't consider a change unless you have a reason that you have observed yourself.
My 2cents.

For SURE use loctite! I didn't and the standard Ruger mount screws came very loose. Danged near knocked the Aimpoint sight off, but when I realized I wasn't even hitting the target I quickly found out why.

You may want to smooth any burrs inside the rings with 320 grit sandpaper. I had a couple burrs that scratched the scope, but no biggy.

My scope slid in the rings the first time i used. Scratched the scope up a little too <_< But all I did was put some of that textured electrical tape stuff with the nylon strands on the inside of the rings and it hasnt moved since.

Thanks for all the info and feedback. I've got my scope off right now getting ready to do a bedding job. I'll locktite the mounting screws when I put it back on, and check for rough spots too.

Thanks again for your insight.
