Though this might be better served in the Reloading forum, this is very contradictory to my knowledge of Hirtenberger in .223-
from http://www.accuratereloading.com/223comp.html

"We had to give up on the HIRTENBERGER ammo. After the first three rounds blew their primers, we decided not to take any more chances. In fact, looking back, I remember on a number of occasions in the past of having similar results with their 308 MATCH ammo and some 7mm REMINGTON magnum hunting ammo. A gentleman, who was not known for his extreme generosity, gave me two full cases of 308 MATCH by HIRTENBERGER. After firing a few rounds and finding that they were far too hot, I pulled all the bullets out, so we can reclaim the components"

Say what? Federal Gold Medal ought to be pure junk as well by their standards....

Beats me i have never shot the stuff,,,,,

What is the standard Twist rate for a standard mini? I like the thought of a 80 grain bullet!

Anybody had any luck with heavy bullets in their stock mini?

I am going to glass bed my 2 mini's over the next week,,,,,,and install the double muzzle break,

Right now one is shooting a 4 inch 5 shot group at 100 and the other a 5 inch at 100. These are averages from 5, five shot groups

Only alterations so far are MikeK's trigger jobs"sweet" and recoil buffers and gas port kits.

Had to go with Mike's larger bushing to have good ejection with mild reloads but Remington yellow box functioned well with the middle one,,,,,,,Remington yellow box shot a 10 inch pattern at 100 yards though!!!!!!!!!

I have lots of the reloads to use so I'll shoot a series after each modification.

Thanks for the link PPosey. If you don't mind I'm posting an article from that link in the 10/22 forum.

The thing about the 80 grn. bullet in the mini is we are limited in Cartridge length by the mag. depth. The 80 grn is a long bullet. My 9"-1 turn mini likes 62-64 grn, but dosen't like 69 grn. A lot of data on that site is for a heaver barrel, than our thin barreled mini's.

My 196 series is a 9" to 1 turn. You don't have to call Ruger, you can put a patch on a rod, mark rod with a + when the verticle mark complets 1 rev. make a horizontal mark. Now measure between the 2 horizontal marks to see if its 9" or 10" or other.
