Reaming dies?

1405 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  elkslayer4x5
I've been looking for a set of 280 Rem Ackley Improved dies and while there are some sets avaible I was wondering if its possible to use a chamber reamer to ream the dies as well as the chamber? Anyone had any experience with this sort of work? All feedback/information will be welcome. :)

:unsure:It would mechanically be possible-but maybe not accomplished if the dies are super hardened!
Huh .280 AI-should be about equal to 7mm rem mag, yes/no?
If your dies are leaded steel (12L is common) than you need a undersize "die reamer"
If your dies are Stainless steel, than after reaming (with your chamber reamer) and hardening (RC-42) you need to have a layer of hard chrome plated to the inside of the die (about .0015 thick layer).
Contact both the main reamer makers (Manson, PTG) and Troy Newlon (IIRC Newlonprecision.com). Troy makes die blanks.

Almost, but not quite, but still a very 'huntable' round. The .280 Rem/7MM express is very similar to a 270. Win, but handles heavier bullets better, still flat shooting, and the AI version adds approximatly another 100 fps with the same bullet.
