Went to the range this morning. Objectives: (1) Sight in scope (2) Break in 20" Green Mountain Barrel.

Used the std base, fired 95 rds at 25 yds using the Rem Gold Bullets (don't like these, they have a std deviation of 32!). 9-10 shot groups, a nickel covers each group. The last 5 shots measured .25" center to center, before I had a misfire.

Am ordering a Volquartsen extractor, Weaver base with new rings, and a spray can of Teflon dry lube for the action. Next session will try different ammo, at 50 yds. Am also going to try to eliminate the triger pre-travel.

Anyone fired their 10/22 lately?

That group is impressive. I had the same problem with the Rem Gold Bullets, but they were so bad in my GM barrel that they would not even chamber. That GM barrel is a winner. I also took mine to the range, but had major problems. Finally solved the mis-fires, stove piping, bad groups, ect., by putting the GM barrel on an old used action. Had to try something. Could not beleive the difference in what happened. Groups almost like yours, no stove piping, no mis-fires. Sometimes it just takes trying something off the wall to get the dang weapons to work right.
Sometimes my mind goes............

It seems it takes a while for the actions to break in. My first 10/22 I bought in 85, had some problems till I fired a brick of ammo thru it. After that it shot more reliably, but since I only shot squirrles, pinecones, and cans with it, I don't know how the accuracy improved. I'm going to keep shooting the Rem GB's till I shoot em up.

I tried cleaning the bore with my vinal coated tac. cleaning cable. It didn't work as the end is too long to fit out of the action, so I used some 30 lb fishing line I had. It worked great. Tied a slip knot in one end to hold the cleaning patches leaving an 1 1/2" piece to pull on as a quick release on the patches, and pulled them thru.

Coyote, that is the finest signature giff I've seen! Did you make it or is there a site that has some?

Thanks cajungeo
That was made for me by another feller at another site. Kinda cool. Goes with my name rather well. LOL.........
Boy the only thing that goes down my rifle barrel is bullets and weed wacker line with a cleaning patch.

Went to the range before Church this morning, and tried some CCI Mini Mags, and Winchester Super X, at 50 yds. Fired 5-10 shot groups of each. The Mini Mags averaged 1.175" groups, and the Super X averaged 1" with the best at 3/4" @.750". I am not satisfied with this, and am not done tuning my rifle. I am working toward a .5" average at 50 yds. On the way back I bought a brick of Dynapoints from K-Mart.
