I took both rifles to the range today to compare them in a practical shooting competition. My M1 Garand is a 2-3 MOA gun. My mini is a DRC custom short barrel version that shoots about the same from the bench. The Garand may be slightly more accurate. But, it is close.
I was shooting at a 6" diameter steel target at 100 yards. I decided to shoot standing, kneeling, and prone with each rifle. Much to my amazement, I was getting more hits with my Mini-14 than my beloved M1 Garand. I switched from rifle to rifle in each position.
I had not really thought about it. But, I think the Mini-14 is easier to hit with due to the smaller size and lighter weight. I especially noticed this standing up. The Garand gets heavy after putting a hundred or so rounds down range with both guns. I workout every day (running and weights) and am in great shape. I was surprized by the results.
