I took both rifles to the range today to compare them in a practical shooting competition. My M1 Garand is a 2-3 MOA gun. My mini is a DRC custom short barrel version that shoots about the same from the bench. The Garand may be slightly more accurate. But, it is close.

I was shooting at a 6" diameter steel target at 100 yards. I decided to shoot standing, kneeling, and prone with each rifle. Much to my amazement, I was getting more hits with my Mini-14 than my beloved M1 Garand. I switched from rifle to rifle in each position.

I had not really thought about it. But, I think the Mini-14 is easier to hit with due to the smaller size and lighter weight. I especially noticed this standing up. The Garand gets heavy after putting a hundred or so rounds down range with both guns. I workout every day (running and weights) and am in great shape. I was surprized by the results.

your results are interesting and refreshing. i find that the more i shoot my mini, the better i can hit with it, i long ago quit shooting at paper targets and now concentrate on objects, such as steel plates @ 100 and more, rocks way out in the field, fun stuff like milk jugs full of water, which by the way at ranges out to 200 are usually hit the first shot with the mini. its amazing that a rifle that gives only so-so paper target accuracy can time after time nail the larger targets with out a miss. goes to show you dont need a MOA rifle to get good results. some folks say that the mini was designed to hit "minute of man" and there is something to that remark. like the good old garand which some folks say give dissapointing paper target performance was so well liked during WWll and korea. the vets will tell you they are extremally accurate while some bench rest shooters say they suck. goes to show what really works in the real world dont it. i think the black rifle crowd look down on the mini-14 because most of them are ignorant of what they can do, kinda like a snob driving a BMW and looking down thier nose at a fella in an old chevy truck. both will get you there, one does it with style and flash, the other does it with rock solid dependability. thanks for sharing your test with us dave.
