Just sitting here, installing my worked over trigger assy. from Mike[Boy what a turn around]. Any way I'm trying to think of a decent sight for the back of my Ranch. Then it hits me. Use a Weigand Ranch Scopemount, with a N.E.C.G Peep sight. The sight uses a Weaver mounting system, and is fully adjustable, and made of steel. Any thoughts on this setup?

I use the Weigand mount to mount a Bushnell scope and the rail works great. I kept having a problem with the Ruger rings working loose ,but with the Weigand and Weaver rings no problems.;) Mike can turn a trigger job around in a hurry can't he? Whats better than his quick service is his quality work.:D

If ya mount a rear sight on a weaver mount, you will need a very long front sight.

If you click on the search button (upper right) and enter "ranch rear sight" many threads will come up on the subject.

You may also consider a scope or Red Dot sight.

Iv'e thought about the front sight as well. mine is held to the base with two allen screws, the only thing I would need to do is figure out the height, then fab up a riser block to raise it to where it has to be. Im planning on a red dot, of sorts, but this would be a back up.

The rear sight from NEGC uses the rear integral mount, no need for the Weigand rail. http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/Pro...ail.aspx?p=9648
If you still want a red dot, I'd still say forget the rail from Weigand
(had one, not a big fan). By the time you built up the front sight to use with the high rear sight you may as well have just gone with some sort of scout configuration. Much cleaner anyway, I think.
Just my .02.

Reloader, I don't think it will fit, as the model 77 has a raised mount, whereas the mini ranch has a sunken mount.

BTW, what didn't you like about the Weigand base?

I had stability problems, wandering zero. I was pretty suprised because it looked stout, but two scopes and some loctite later I decided the mount was at fault. I just couldn't get it to hold. I came to the conclusion that the way it gripped the Ruger mounts was to blame. I'd give you the specifics but I haven't looked at it for months (lots of school and sleeping since then). All my attempts to sell it to dealers at a gunshow were met with everything from polite no-thank-you's to chuckling.
