I recently installed a couple of LED strips (red) on the bottom of the hatch door in my Nissan Rogue so that when the hatch is open, they will shine to the rear of the car. I figured that being up high, they would be more visible to traffic approaching from the rear. Liking that, I added a LED flasher that blinks (strobes) the lights to make them more visible.
I figure that an actual red strobe might be illegal but these are not exactly strobes and will only be visible when the hatch is raised.
They do flash quicker than the hazard lights - about two times per second like:
RR____RR____RR____RR____ Two flashes then a 1/2 second pause then two more flashes.
Any knowledgeable opinions about this?

Not a LEO but IMO should not be a problem from the rear especially if they are not on while going down the road. In the rear tail lights are red, stop lights are red, turn signals and hazard lights can be red or amber. In the front turn signals and hazard lights are amber. Thats the vehicle code as I know it in most states I have been in.
